About this Role At Ampacity, the Lead Commissioning Technician is a field role responsible for overseeing commissioning activities on large-scale or high-priority solar projects. In addition to technical excellence, this role is accountable for developing Technician I and II team members, maintaining Ampacity's quality standards on site, and serving as the primary point of contact for customers and general contractors. What You'll Do + Lead and oversee all commissioning activities on large-scale or high-priority projects + Serve as the primary on-site technical contact for customers and general contractors + Mentor, train, and evaluate Technician I and II personnel in the field + Review and approve commissioning documentation and quality reports for SOPs compliance + Own resolution of complex technical issues across tracker systems and electrical infrastructure + Provide progressive feedback to improve Ampacity's installation standards and commissioning procedures + Coordinate with the Service Manager on project scheduling and field team deployment + Support pre-commissioning planning including site walks, risk identification, and material preparation + Deliver comprehensive post-commissioning reports and customer closeout packages What You'll Bring + 4+ years of experience in solar commissioning or a related electrical/mechanical field, with a minimum of 2 years in a Technician II or equivalent field capacity + Expert-level knowledge of solar tracking systems, PV commissioning standards, and electrical infrastructure + Advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across complex electrical and mechanical systems + Demonstrated ability to lead and develop field teams + Strong customer-facing communication and relationship management skills + Ability to manage multiple project sites and coordinate with internal teams and the Service Manager + Valid driver's license with a clean MVR and willingness to travel up to 80% of the time Typical Work Environment + Active construction sites with heavy machinery, power tools, and construction equipment in operation. + 100% outdoor work environment subject to extreme weather conditions including snow and high heat, with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and uneven terrain. + Work at various heights requiring fall protection equipment. + Position may require unexpected travel and relocation to project sites with short notice. Physical Expectations + This work is physically demanding in nature and requires constant lifting of 30 – 50 pounds, unassisted, with lifts of 50+ pounds requiring assistance. + Working schedule will be 8 – 10 hours a day and 5 – 6 days a week (weather permitting). + Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and crawl for extended periods while operating tools and equipment safely. + Must be able to participate in required training hours as assigned.
