We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Commissioning Engineer to oversee the commissioning process for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This leadership role requires deep technical knowledge of power systems, strong project management capabilities, and a proactive approach to safety, quality, and performance. The Lead Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for executing and validating the safe energization and performance of BESS installations, ensuring compliance with design specifications and industry standards
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and coordinate all commissioning activities for utility-scale BESS projects, from pre-commissioning through final acceptance and handover.
Manage commissioning plans, schedules, checklists, and test procedures in accordance with project requirements, guidelines, and applicable codes.
Supervise and mentor a team of commissioning engineers and subcontractors during on-site commissioning activities.
Serve as the technical advisor during commissioning, acting as the primary interface between engineering, construction, vendors, and project stakeholders.
Oversee functional and performance testing of inverters, BMS, switchgear, transformers, protection relays, and SCADA systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues involving electrical, communications, and control systems.
Ensure all commissioning documentation is accurately completed, including redline drawing, punch lists, test reports, change logs, and turnover packages.
Enforce safety protocols and promote a culture of zero incidents during energization and testing activities.
Carry out grid code and performance testing
Facilitate technical training and turnover to operations and maintenance teams.
Plan, prepare, and/or instruct both internal and external training programs as required, to impart and perpetuate field engineering and/or product knowledge
Perform administrative functions; such as writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, reports to customers, time sheets, and expense sheets on a complete timely, and thorough basis
Be knowledgeable of and conduct work activities in compliance with, the Energy Safety (EHS) Manual and Safety (EHS) policies
Exercise good judgment in controlling costs and expenditures of Company funds
Protect the Company's capital investments and Intellectual Property by properly safeguarding and maintaining equipment for which responsible
Make contributions to the continued development and refinement of SSS Engineering Standards and Procedures (incl. Method Statements, Risk Assessments etc)
Develop knowledge of SSS Terms and Conditions and those of customers and subcontractors, and perform activities so as to minimize risk and assure compliance
Dotted-line responsibility for assigned field resources to include:
Provide performance feedback for field resources to service manager and employees as needed/required
Assist Service Manager with retention and attraction of qualified field resources (including candidate screening, hiring recommendations, etc.)
Act as Stand In Service Manager during vacation or during periods of absence of Service Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Power Systems, or related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
Significant experience in power system commissioning, including 2+ years in BESS or renewable energy projects.
Proven track record of leading field commissioning on utility-scale or large industrial electrical systems.
Strong understanding of BMS, inverter/PCS operation, SCADA integration, and protection systems.
Experience in the use PLC and ladder logic, (MKVie, P80i preferred)
Excellent leadership, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to travel extensively to remote project locations and work in varying field conditions

The Lead Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for executing and validating the safe energization and performance of BESS installations, ensuring compliance with design specifications and industry standards power distribution and delivery (such as breakers, switchgear, relays, transformers, drives and controls, and rotating equipment (motors, compressors, generators, turbines, etc.)
Ability to build strong customer relationships
Solid business and finance acumen and ability to sell GEV value to the customer
Computer skills to include Outlook, Excel, and Word
Lean principles experience
