Lead Automation and Testing Engineer

This role is responsible for driving strategy, architecture, and execution of end-to-end test automation and performance engineering across our cloud-native, microservices-based platform that powers mission-critical healthcare applications. This position works collaboratively with cross-functional teams, brings leadership to the QA discipline, and ensures we deliver safe, secure, and performant solutions for our users in clinical, claim processing, and provider-facing environments. **ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & KEY PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES** + Lead the design and implementation of scalable test automation frameworks for UI, API, and backend systems + Architect and manage performance testing infrastructure for backend services and data-heavy health analytic features + Partner with product and engineering teams to define quality strategy, test coverage goals, and performance SLAs, especially in regulated healthcare workflows + Own the integration of quality gates into CI/CD pipelines using GitLab + Drive observability practices across the platform with Datadog and OpenTelemetry for performance insights and anomaly detection + Champion the use of AI-powered tools (e.g., OpenAI, ChatGPT, Cursor, Mistral) to augment test coverage, diagnostics, and reporting + Provide technical mentorship and leadership to a distributed engineering team and foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement + Participate in compliance-aware testing practices, including support for audits, documentation, traceability, and security testing + Contribute to DevOps and cloud-native development within AWS, Kubernetes, and containerized environments + Contribute to incident reviews, root cause analysis, and resilience testing, applying chaos engineering and fault injection when applicable **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** + Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related technical field or relevant experience in lieu of a degree + Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in QA/test automation and performance engineering, including 3+ years in a lead or architect role + Deep expertise with TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, Python, or C# in a test automation context + Deep knowledge of test automation tools (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Robot Framework) + Experience with performance testing tools (k6, Gatling, JMeter, Locust) + Strong experience with monitoring/observability (Grafana, Datadog, New Relic) + Experience testing distributed systems and REST APIs, WebSockets, GraphQL, and microservices architecture + Comfortable working in cloud and containerized environments (AWS, Kubernetes) + Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines, modern QA tooling, and infrastructure-as-code principles + Knowledge of HIPAA, GDPR, or other healthcare compliance frameworks **PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS** + Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related technical field + Experience with AI/ML for testing, observability, or analytics + Familiarity with SRE principles and chaos engineering + Experience in SaaS delivery of regulated medical or clinical systems + Familiarity with BDD/TDD methodologies, tools, and best practices + Prior work with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes + Contributions to test strategy documentation, quality audits, or release readiness reviews + Excellent communication and mentoring skills; experience leading engineers + Strong communication skills and experience working with product, DevOps, and data teams ***The US base salary range for this full-time position is: $146,910.00 - $220,366.00 The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location.
