GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Finance Lead will support activities that provide critical store performance and expense tracking, reporting, forecasting and budgeting information for Stores at Ross and dd's Discounts. The Finance Lead will report to the Director of Store Finance but will also occasionally interact with the SVP of Store Finance and the SVP and VPs of other stores functions (Field Leadership, Corporate Finance, Operations and Loss Prevention). The Finance Lead will focus on store labor expense from an analytical point of view. The Finance Lead will support the store payroll budgeting and planning processes, the payroll closing and explanation processes, and own the forecasting of store wage rates.

The base salary range for this role is $93,000 to $140,400. The base salary range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards vary by position and location.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist with the Facilitation and preparation of annual budgets and 5-year plans for Store payroll

• Support the 5-year and annual payroll budgeting processes by understanding business priorities and drivers of activities and costs and using that information to build budget models that accurately predict levels and timing of costs.

• Support the development of store specific monthly sales and payroll plans based on forecasted volume drivers, store-specific profiles, Ross and dd's labor standards and current budgets, being able to perform all associated processes independently, serving as the primary backup to the Finance Manager. Communicate plans to Field Leadership.
Support weekly payroll reporting and the month-end and quarter close processes, including forecast changes and variance analyses.

• Support the assessment of payroll spend (compared to plan) on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and communicate to Executive Leadership. Proactively identify potential issues or challenges and explanations for spend variances.

• Assist with the monthly payroll forecast changes with Corporate Finance

• Assist with the bi-weekly reconciliation of store non-exempt payroll between store payroll systems and Peoplesoft/General Ledger systems and be able to perform all associated processes independently. This entails reconciling actual payroll dollars paid versus payroll reported in the store system and requires accruals and adjustments to be made accordingly.

• Assist with the generation and submission of the quarterly board schedules, serving as the primary backup to the Finance Manager.

• Assist with analyzing monthly, quarterly and yearly payroll variances to budget and formulate explanations of payroll spend for Corporate Finance.

• Partner with the field (through the Regional Finance Managers) to understand operational drivers of payroll spend versus plan

• Coordinate any responses to inquiries from the field on payroll plan differences across stores
Develop and maintain a model to accurate predict hourly wage rates by position and by chain for store payroll

• Own the 5-Year Plan and Budget processes for wage rates, accurately modeling and predicting the average monthly rates (1 penny off equates to an annual cost of >$1M)

• Track changes in minimum wage ordinances and quantify their impact

• Perform regular and ad hoc analysis to understand implications of wage rate changes. Communicate results to senior leaders (including CFO and COO).

• Trend wage rates from budget using recent actuals to provide up-to-date values for monthly payroll allocations within the year.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's degree required (preferably in an analytical field)

• Strong candidates will have a minimum of 4 years post college experience, preferably in the financial/budget planning field

• Strong analytical ability - must be able to design analysis to answer specific questions; be able to synthesize data; perform their duties with a high level of accuracy and be able to error check and reconcile own work as well as providing a "second set of eyes" for the work of others, as needed

• A clear understanding of basic financial, statistical and economic concepts

• Excellent communication skills - must be able to clearly communicate results and implications of analysis in both verbal and written (PowerPoint) forms

• High degree of reliability, including accountability for daily, weekly, and long-term projects required.

• Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize these tasks, and follow-up to ensure timely results.

• Ability to build effective relationships with a wide variety of internal customers, including store and field leadership. Must be able to listen, understand and communicate with multiple levels from peers to Executives

• Strong fundamental business technical skills - must be Excel and PowerPoint proficient and have an ability to learn new business process software applications (Hyperion, MicroStrategy, Flash Sales).

• Ability to cope with pressure, tight deadlines and changing priorities

• Must be trustworthy with confidential data and other information

Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work. #LI-Hybrid
