The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

At Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED), we transform science into medicines to address some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. Guided by curiosity, responsibility, and humility, we empower our people to deliver life-changing innovations quickly.

This role is based at the Roche Innovation Center Basel within the Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS) function, focused on developing regulatory-compliant assays for biomarkers and bioanalytics in close collaboration with therapeutic areas and functions. The position is part of the cross-functional RNAHub, where experts across biology, engineering, and data science collaborate to apply RNA-targeting technologies for drug, biomarker, and target discovery. The RNAHub’s data-driven approach blends artificial and human intelligence, fostering a collaborative, innovative research community.

The Opportunity

As an expert in the development of bioanalytical and biomarker assays required for the development of oligonucleotides and small molecules, your main responsibilities are the evaluation, development, and application of novel methodologies to analyze and quantify oligonucleotides and challenging small molecules from animal and human study samples. You are applying highly sensitive LC-MS methods in which you have special expert knowledge. You work with scientists and associates to support the development of oligonucleotides and small molecules from discovery to early development.

You have knowledge in the field of bioanalytical and biomarker assay development in the lab with special focus on oligonucleotides and small molecules; you develop new sensitive methods to assess the pharmacokinetics of a therapeutic compound and its biodistribution as well as selected biomarkers / pharmacodynamic markers.

You are an expert at applying LC-MS technologies in the lab, evaluating new technologies and helping to transfer novel methods to external collaboration partners.

You apply the technologies to analyze samples from pre-clinical and clinical studies and condense the results into bioanalytical reports which might become part of filing dossiers.

You are aware of different technologies to analyze and quantify oligonucleotides and small molecules; you help to evaluate and select the most appropriate technique for compounds of these therapeutic modalities.

You scout for new technologies and lab equipment to constantly evolve best practices in the lab.

Who you are

Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy, or technician with substantial experience.

3+ years’ experience in development, validation and application of LC-MS assays for the measurement of oligonucleotides and small molecule drugs and biomarkers in biological fluids. Previous experience in quantitative LC-MS method development for large molecules is a plus.

Hands-on experience with relevant technologies; expert knowledge in quantitative mass spectrometry is a must.

Knowledge in tissue sample preparation and processing as well as in development of an appropriate quality control concept.

Ability to think unconventionally, applying scientific rigor in the evaluation and development of new technologies to support all current and emerging modalities.

High spirit of collaboration and ability to work in an agile matrix team with a sense of urgency and ability to deal with complex situations and changing timelines.

You exhibit a growth mindset. You ask for feedback and act on it. You embrace opportunities to gain new skills and perspectives and provide honest feedback to others to help them grow.

We are looking forward to your application!
