About the role

Are you an experienced Trade Mark Attorney looking to broaden your career or make the move in-house? Or perhaps an IP Solicitor with a passion for brand protection and strategy? This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a household name and play a key role in the growth and protection of some of the UK's most loved brands.

You'll be part of a diverse, and collaborative team within the Boots Legal & Compliance function. This is a hands-on role where your expertise will directly influence brand development, innovation, and global IP strategy.

This is a strategic position advising the business on all aspects of trade marks, copyright, domain name registrations, brand protection and IP-related competition matters. Reporting directly to the Director of Intellectual Property, you'll play a key role in executing The Boots Group's global trade mark strategy and protecting its brand legacy. You'll be advising on the full lifecycle of trade mark matters; clearance, filing, prosecution, and disputes.

Key responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:Managing global trade mark portfolios, including overseeing maintenance and renewals.Conducting trade mark clearance searches and providing registrability and infringement opinions.Filing trade mark applications and handling prosecution activities.Handling contentious matters such as oppositions, cancellations, infringement disputes, domain name disputes and online enforcement.Supporting brand protection activities.Supporting new product development, product launches and global market expansion activities.Advising internal teams and developing IP guidance for the business.Managing a small formalities team.Providing strategic advice on brand protection and trade mark-related disputes.Collaborating with various stakeholders cross-functionally to align trade mark strategy with business goals.
What you'll need to haveProven expertise in trade mark law and practice.CITMA qualified TM attorney or IP solicitor with significant experience of UK and EU practice as well as good working knowledge of global trade mark systems.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.Deliver practical, commercial advice aligned to The Boots Group's priorities.A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused mindset.Willingness to support broader legal and commercial initiatives.
It would be great if you also haveWhilst in-house experience at a global company would be advantageous, we are very open to candidates with an interest in moving in-house and able to demonstrate their commercial ability Experience of in-house IP management systems such as DIAMS iQ and trade mark searching tools such as Corsearch.Experience with online brand enforcement tools and IP monitoring software.
