Landscape Designer, Community Design Assistance Center

The Community Design Assistance Center (CDAC), an outreach center within the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (AAD) is seeking a talented and motivated Landscape Designer for a restricted, non-tenure track Administrative and Professional (A/P) faculty position. Reporting to CDAC’s Director and working closely with the Project Manager, this role involves contributing to interdisciplinary teams composed of faculty, staff, and student employees to develop conceptual landscape designs that serve community needs. The initial appointment will be for one year with the opportunity for renewal.

The Landscape Designer will be instrumental in advancing community-centered projects through design development, visualization, and engagement processes. This position offers a unique opportunity to create a meaningful impact in communities while gaining valuable hands-on experience in landscape design, participatory processes, and collaboration with stakeholders.

Job Description:
The Landscape Designer will be responsible for developing conceptual landscape designs and site plans at various scales, accompanied by renderings, perspectives, sections, and animated walk-throughs as well as plant material selection to create plant palettes. This role also helps prepare for and participates in community meetings, writes and prepares project reports, mentors student employees, and keeps project files and teams well-organized.

Other responsibilities may include supporting special initiatives, assisting in project investigations, assisting with the preparation of the CDAC newsletter or other public relations needs, helping prepare for meetings, contributing to strategic planning efforts, engaging in advancement activities, and providing IT support to CDAC staff and students in collaboration with AAD’s IT team, especially as it relates to ensuring software is up to date.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who can also work independently, has exceptional organizational skills and a pro-active approach to anticipating needs and plans ahead, manage and prioritize multiple deadlines, communicate effectively (verbally and in writing), and is detail-oriented.

A willingness to travel regularly within the Commonwealth, including some evening, weekend, and overnight trips, is required.
