Duties may require driving state vehicles, utilizing public transportation, and/or extensive walking to make on-site measurements and observations to record existing site conditions relevant to site management, maintenance, or proposed design. Successful candidates would be involved in environmental review, design, and construction of public spaces involving or impacted by state-owned walkways, bikeways, highways, viaducts, and bridges within the five boroughs of New York City. Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).* To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:Landscape Architect Trainee:1. A bachelor's or higher-level degree in landscape architecture; OR2. A Landscape Architect's License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.As a Landscape Architect Trainee, you will serve a 24-month traineeship that leads to Assistant Landscape Architect, Grade 20. To advance to Assistant Landscape Architect, you must have obtained proof of passing any two sections of the LARE and successfully completed the requirements of the traineeship to the satisfaction of the appointing authority. At the discretion of the appointing authority, early advancement to the Assistant Landscape Architect is possible if you have obtained any two sections of the LARE and have successfully completed twelve months of the traineeship. It is your responsibility to notify the appointing authority’s personnel office upon obtaining proof of passing any two sections of the LARE. Failure to obtain a passing result on any two sections of the LARE within 24-months will result in removal from your position.Assistant Landscape Architect:1. A bachelor’s or higher-level degree in landscape architecture; and proof of passing any two sections of the Landscape Architect Registration Exam (LARE); OR2.
