GENERAL SUMMARY:

Department: Birthing Center

Schedule: 40hrs; 8hr Day Shift; 7:00am-3:30pm

Certified Lactation Consultant with experience working with Baby Friendly facilities highly preferred. Lactation Consultant will play a lead role in the maintenance of our Baby Friendly certification status. Approximately 6-12 hours per week will be dedicated to quality improvement. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Provides lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants. Serves as a lactation-related clinical resource, educator, and mentor. Performs initial and on-going assessments of patients' lactation goals and issues. Instructs and demonstrates proper techniques and promotes the importance of breastfeeding. Identifies the need for standard patient teaching plans and assists with their development. Acts as a liaison to staff and physicians when addressing needs associated with breastfeeding. Contributes to the development of data tools to monitor and improve outcomes. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

Prior experience in hospital setting preferred. Prior experience with Baby Friendly initiative preferred. High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. 

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

IBCLC certified preferred.Certification specializing in Lactation obtained within 24 Months (2 years) of hire date or job transfer date required. Preferred 2-3 year of CLC experience.  Additional Information Organization: Henry Ford Health St. John Hospital Department: Women and Children Svcs 001 Shift: Day Job Union Code: Not Applicable
