**Job Title: Laborer** **Job Description** This position involves supporting shipboard modernization and maintenance operations for U.S. Navy vessels in San Diego. The role of Helper/Firewatch includes performing general labor duties that support multiple skilled trades, such as transporting tools and materials, assisting technicians on board ships, performing firewatch during hot work, and carrying out basic mechanical or cable-pulling tasks as needed. This position is crucial for ensuring safety, workflow efficiency, and the successful execution of ship maintenance projects. **Responsibilities** + Transport tools and materials to various locations on board ships. + Assist technicians in performing shipboard maintenance tasks. + Perform firewatch duties during hot work, ensuring all safety standards are met. + Carry out basic mechanical or cable-pulling tasks as required. + Maintain a high level of safety and situational awareness in all tasks. **Essential Skills** + General labor and firewatch experience. + Minimum of 1 year of marine/shipyard labor experience, including assisting trades, moving materials, pulling cable, or performing general labor aboard ships. + Competency in firewatch duties, including maintaining situational awareness and documenting activity per safety standards. + Physical ability to safely maneuver ladders, tight spaces, and shipboard environments daily. + Accuracy in following instructions from welders, electricians, pipefitters, or supervisors. + Compliance with base and security requirements, including passing background and drug screenings. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks and use hand tools. + Willingness to learn new shipboard processes and support multiple trades. + Strong teamwork and communication skills. + Comfortable working in hot, cold, or confined environments. + Dependable, punctual, and safety-focused. **Why Work Here?** This role offers the opportunity to directly contribute to U.S. Navy mission readiness while engaging in stable, long-term ship repair work in San Diego.
