The Nutrition and Food Service Management Program at HMC Campus – Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies is currently seeking a Temporary Part Time Laboratory Technologist to join our dynamic team. The technologist will be directly involved with supporting curriculum delivery and activities related to the development of Nutrition and Food Service Management Technician skills.
What You’ll Be Doing
Supporting faculty in curriculum delivery within the specialized lab spaces; Supporting students in development of competency skills during skills lab; Providing guidance and support to students regarding the application/implementation of professional practice standards and principles; Facilitating simulation sessions and execute food preparation set-up and take down; Supporting faculty in objective assessment of student learning and skill development; Preparing labs with equipment and supplies as per curriculum requirements and faculty needs prior to each lab session; Inspecting learning equipment and simulation stations for functionality and readiness for each lab session; Performing inventory management of all instructional and general supplies; Managing program supplies inventory, related documents, logs, and forms; Supporting the Program Coordinator and Associate Dean to determine the needs for capital equipment purchases, performing cost/benefit analysis, designing/redesigning, planning, and developing of future space requirements for programs; Maintaining equipment manuals, procedures, and product information; Monitoring and maintain appropriate levels of lab supplies by performing regular inventory management; Initiating equipment repairs and services, requesting parts, chemicals, and supplies purchases; Collaborating with program faculty to create, implement, and maintain a thriving student learning environment; Acting as a resource to faculty, staff, and students regarding lab policies and procedures, use of equipment and activities taking place in labs while ensuring faculty and students follow established procedures; Communicating with suppliers regarding cost, availability, technical specifications, returns, testing and installation criteria; Attending bi-weekly operational meetings and providing updates on assigned deliverables, tasks and pending issues; Supporting simulation practices and skills lab; Improving efficiency and utilization of the program spaces; Working closely with faculty members in assisting and strategizing ways to improve community partner relationships, social media presence and community engagement; Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:
A minimum of a diploma or degree in Nutrition and Food Service Management or related field; Computer literacy is a must; Exceptional collaboration skills, demonstrated team engagement, leadership, conflict resolution, problem solving and critical thinking skills; Preference will be given to individuals with a variety of experience in the industry, including experience in clinical nutrition and/or food and nutrition service departments; First Aid Training and Certification; Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Certification; Food Handler’s Certificate; Long-term care home and hospital experience is an asset; Experience and understanding of working in an educational setting are asset; Excellent knowledge in cross-sectional food business operations and supply chain an asset.
