Requisition ID: req58338 Job Title: Laboratory Technician Sector: Health Employment Category: Regular Employment Type: Full-Time Open to Expatriates: No Location: Jdeda, Syria Work Arrangement:In-person Job Description Background/Context: The IRC has operated in Syria since 2012, providing protection, health, economic recovery, and early childhood development programs in Idleb, Aleppo, Ar-Raqqa, Hassakeh, and Deir ez-Zor, with new programs expanding into Hama, rural Damascus, and Homs. With a team of over 700 members, the IRC has established trust and strong community relationships, ensuring access and effective service delivery. It plays a significant role in Syria’s NGO, donor, and coordination forums, holding key positions and adapting to the evolving context. With the new realities under the new government, as of December 2024, the IRC has deployed a team to Damascus to set up operations and engage in coordination structures for newly accessible areas across Syria—including parts of NES, NWS, and other previously unreachable locations in South and Central Syria, adjusting operations to maximize coverage and efficiency. Healthcare Since 2012, the IRC has provided comprehensive primary and secondary healthcare through hospitals, clinics, and mobile medical units (MMUs). Ensuring access to vital services like sexual and reproductive health, clinical psychosocial support, and other specialized care. Working alongside our partners, we’ve helped secure a steady supply of medicines and medical equipment into the country, trained healthcare providers, and deployed health personnel to maintain services in even the most challenging conditions. Job overview: The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for providing medical laboratory tests in the clinic according to IRC doctors` instruction. This position reports to the Senior Health Officer- Ar-Raqqa. Responsibilities: + Collect and prepare patient samples for the requested laboratory tests, including blood samples. + Prepare the reagents, chemical solution, and other materials before using them for the laboratory tests as clinically indicated. + Prepare laboratory tests according to the doctor’s requests. + Monitor and control patient samples that may be contagious and disposed of in accordance with the safety and security procedures. + Prepare the laboratory room and the documents according to the quality control procedures of the IRC. + Maintain high quality Infection Prevention and Control measures in the lab and health facility to ensure staff and patient safety. + Maintain adequate laboratory equipment/supplies and related records as indicated by The IRC Senior Health Officer. + Update the clinic databases daily and submit the weekly reports on time. + As with other health care professionals, the laboratory technician is expected to comply with protocols, procedures, and safety policies of a clinic. Qualifications + Laboratory technician certificate from intermediate medical institute and/or other relevant certificates. + Prior 2-3 years of experience in medical laboratories is required. + Relevant experience with a reputable organization will be an asset. + Registered with Health Council in Ar-Raqqa. + Effective communication + The ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for patients always is essential. + Ability to lead, train, supervise and facilitate. + Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work overtime when necessary and be able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail. + The ability to work as a member of a team is essential. + Ability to communicate in local language and English will be an asset. + Applicant should not be having another Job if he/she got selected by IRC. Language/Travel: + Arabic is required and English is an advantage + Travel: 100% to field sites in20%as well as attending regional and global workshops and meetings.
