**Description:**
**Compliance & Regulatory Oversight**
+ Ensures self and staff are knowledgeable of and comply with current laws, regulations, and Holy Cross Hospital policies, including reporting mechanisms such as the corporate compliance hotline.
+ Coordinates compliance orientation and ongoing risk-specific training throughout the year.
+ Assists in monitoring compliance within the department and reports suspected non-compliance to the Compliance Officer.
+ Responds promptly to compliance issues, supports investigations, and helps implement corrective actions.
**Technical & Clinical Expertise**
+ Maintains full competency in the duties of a Histotechnologist and/or Cytotechnologist.
+ Demonstrates excellent diagnostic skills, including preliminary diagnosis on Non-Gyn and final diagnosis on Gyn specimens (if licensed as a Cytotechnologist).
+ Reviews and interprets patient data, ensuring accuracy and completeness before reporting.
+ Assists with FNA procedures, including preparation, communication with scheduling, and support for pathologists.
+ Performs and maintains proficiency in Image Analysis procedures and equipment.
**Quality Assurance & Safety**
+ Maintains integrity in reporting results and follows all safety protocols.
+ Monitors quality control trends, performs corrective actions, and keeps leadership informed.
+ Participates in CAP inter-laboratory comparison programs and inspection readiness.
+ Updates practices based on internal and external quality assurance findings.
**Leadership & Communication**
+ Provides effective leadership, guidance, and problem resolution within the department.
+ Communicates policies, procedures, and feedback clearly and respectfully.
+ Keeps Director and Pathologist informed of departmental activities and issues.
+ Approves limited overtime and ensures adequate staffing coverage.
**Operations & Inventory Management**
+ Oversees inventory to ensure adequate supplies without overstocking or expiration.
+ Submits timely and accurate supply orders with minimal emergency requests.
+ Implements new methods and equipment, including charge codes, in a timely manner.
+ Maintains procedure manuals in regulatory-compliant format.
**Education & Professional Development**
+ Remains current on technical developments through seminars, journals, and professional organizations.
+ Teaches and mentors staff in troubleshooting, equipment use, and quality practices.
+ Sets and achieves meaningful goals aligned with departmental and hospital objectives.
**Additional Responsibilities**
+ Performs equipment maintenance and documents all activities.
+ Covers bench duties as needed and supports departmental flexibility.
+ Completes all assigned duties within deadlines and participates in departmental initiatives.
**Licensure**
***** Must be a licensed Cytotechnologist and/or Histotechnology supervisor in the State of Florida. Certified by national regulatory agency (ASCP)
**Minimum Qualifications**
* Bachelor Degree from an accredited institution in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemical Science, or Biological or Health Science.
*Graduate of an approved program in Cytotechnology and/or Histology. minimum two years experience preferred as Histotechnologist or Cytotechnologist in a hospital setting.
***** Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus, and form perception required to notice pertinent details of specimens under microscopic study.
