Laboratory Supervisor (3rd Shift) - Lab Office

Founded in 1906, McLeod Health is a locally owned and managed, not for profit organization supported by the strength of more than 900 members on its medical staff and more than 2,900 licensed nurses. McLeod Health is also composed of approximately 15,000 team members and more than 90 physician practices throughout its 18-county service area. With seven hospitals, McLeod Health operates three Health and Fitness Centers, a Sports Medicine and Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, Hospice and Home Health Services. The system currently has 988 licensed beds, including Hospice and Behavioral Health. The hospitals within McLeod Health include: McLeod Regional Medical Center, McLeod Health Dillon, McLeod Health Loris, McLeod Health Seacoast, McLeod Health Cheraw, McLeod Health Clarendon and McLeod Behavioral Health.  

Responsibilities:

Job Summary: The Laboratory Supervisor is involved in overseeing the daily functions of the laboratory or the functions of a specific department within the laboratory and collaborates with the Laboratory Director to deploy teamwork and united leadership processes.  The Laboratory Supervisor provides leadership to staff in coordination with the department director to ensure all testing meets and exceeds regulatory compliance. 

Shall demonstrate leadership and commitment with respect to the quality management system by:
(a) Promoting the use of process approach and risk-based thinking.
(b) Engaging, directing, and supporting persons to contribute to the effectiveness of the quality management system
     requirements.
(c) Promoting improvement. Establishes and maintains an effective preventative maintenance program for all instruments and equipment in their area of responsibility. Prepares annually, FTE, supplies, and capital equipment budget worksheets as requested by Laboratory Administration and serves as requested as members of hospital committees to provide required statistics and other needed information. Assess laboratory's readiness for inspection for all applicable regulatory agencies. Prepare periodic and special analysis and reports required for management, pathologists and/or outside agencies. Handles personnel-related functions (e.g., schedule, selection, promotion, discipline) according to laboratory policies. Review quality control, proficiency results, patient results, and method comparisons; identify and correct performance problems in these areas. Teaching as assigned: 
(a)    Precept new employee(s) or student
(b)    Present in-service to staff, students, or guests
(c)    Present formal lecture to Medical Technology students if applicable. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Four years’ experience in clinical laboratory. Minimum of twelve months training in accredited school of Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent work experience.

Education:

Minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or in appropriate biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited school or  Minimum of an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology with 20 years of experience Certification by recognized national certifying agency or obtained within the first year in the position.
