Job DescriptionAs a Laboratory Assistant at Eurofins Experchem Laboratories Inc., you will support laboratory staff and ensure the smooth operation of testing activities. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and Good Documentation Practices (GDP) to ensure compliance with GMP and quality standards.Assist in the collection, labeling, and tracking of cannabis samples for analysis.Safely lift and move heavy boxes and materials within the lab (up to 60 lbs).Dispose of standards (STDs) and reagents following lab safety protocols and compliance guidelines.Dispose of chemicals in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.Load and operate the laboratory dishwasher for glassware and equipment cleaning.Organize and maintain laboratory supplies, ensuring cleanliness and proper storage.Support general lab upkeep and assist with inventory management as needed.Weigh samples for analysis according to the test method and SOPs.Perform destruction of cannabis samples in accordance with regulatory and SOP requirements.Organize and maintain the cannabis sample storage room, ensuring proper labeling and inventory control.Provide daily support to each lab station in locating and managing sample inventory.Organize and maintain consumables in storage cabinets per SOP guidelines.Perform sample weighing and data entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).Track laboratory consumables inventory and submit requests for supply replenishment as needed to Supervisor or Designee.Prepare samples, reagents, and equipment for testing under GMP-compliant conditions.Maintain accurate and timely documentation of laboratory activities (e.g., logbooks, worksheets) as required by GMP standards.Clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and work areas to support a safe and organized workspace.Support inventory control efforts, including logging, labeling, and organizing laboratory supplies.Participate in routine audits, inspections, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.Dispose of chemical and cannabis waste safely and in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.Always maintain good laboratory housekeeping.Communicate effectively with colleagues and other departments to support lab operations.Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or managementQualificationsUniversity degree or college diploma in a chemistry-related field.Basic computer literacy.Laboratory safety and WHMIS training.Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs safely.Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking).Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and chemical disposal procedures preferred.Attention to detail and ability to follow safety and compliance protocols.Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.Must be able to lift 50-60 IBS.Working Conditions: This is a laboratory environment with the majority of time spent standing and working at a lab bench. The position requires the ability to lift up to 60 lbs, following established safety procedure. Proper handling of hazardous materials is essential, following established safety procedures and wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Additionally, there may be a need for extra hours, occasional weekend work, and evenings as necessary.
