In the Laboratories at Cleveland Clinic, you will find breakthroughs that transform medicine and propel careers. As a member of our Laboratory team, you will perform the diagnostic and consultative services that are the foundation for our world-class care. Whether operating complex testing equipment or performing mundane, everyday tasks, your work will help us execute more than 20 million tests each year, allowing us to serve more patients than ever before. This role supports a team dedicated to quality. Laboratory Assistants are utilized to the top of our ability while remaining conscious of our accreditation requirements. In this role you will process samples, perform waived laboratory testing, and direct the workflow within the lab. 

A caregiver in this role works nights from 9:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Perform various laboratory procedures.  

Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting and storing specimens.  

Operate laboratory equipment and perform routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs.  

Perform quality assurance activities.  

Maintain adequate stock of supplies and manage the inventory by transporting and distributing supplies.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

High School Diploma or GED 

Completion of three months of on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and Cleveland Clinic policies 


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Previous experience working in a laboratory setting

Physical Requirements:

Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.

Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.

Requires frequent sitting or standing.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
