Laboratory Assistant

Position Summary:

Labcorp Oncology is seeking to hire a Laboratory assistant to join our Buffalo Clinical Tissue Center of Excellence to help support high-complexity Next-Generation Sequencing to inform patient care.  This position supports the daily operations of our molecular and histology laboratories and works closely with our Pathology team.  Responsibilities include laboratory support duties, inventory management, temperature monitoring, reagent preparation, and instrument upkeep. Additionally, this position works closely with our pathologists during upfront tissue review and PD-L1 reporting to ensure the highest quality patient care. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, be proactive, learn new skills quickly, and be comfortable working independently or as part of a team. 

Key Responsibilities:

Perform daily temperature trackingConduct annual thermometer calibrations and documentationFile or dispose of sample tubes in accordance with lab protocolsHandle garbage and liquid waste disposal following safety proceduresMonitor supply inventory and assist with ordering as neededAssist with unpacking and stocking warehouse suppliesParticipate in the yearly freezer defrosting scheduleComplete scheduled weekly, monthly, and preventative maintenance tasksStock reagents and consumables (pipette tips, gloves, paper towels, slides, etc.)Clean and maintain instruments (stainers, slide printers, fridges)Wipe down and disinfect lab surfaces regularlyScan order paperworkRetrieve and deliver H&E and PDL-1 slides to and from PathologyOrganize histology slides and paraffin blocksContact vendors/service representatives for repairsScan, store and retrieve current and archived slides in digital pathology softwareLearn and support quality processes and procuduresOther duties as needed

Pathology Support

Work closely with the pathology team to efficiently enter case data in real-time during tissue quality control steps Assist pathologists in PD-L1 report data entry.Learn how to read and interpret pathology reports

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalentPrevious medical/lab or production experience is preferredComfortability with handling biological specimens Ability to accurately identify specimens Basic computer knowledge and data entry skillsHigh level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitaskAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and meet established turn-around timesStrong communication skills; both written and verbalAbility to sit and/or stand for extended periods of timeMust pass a standardized color blindness testFlexibility to work overtime as needed

Pay Range: $19-23/hr

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
