Lab Test Systems Safety Engineer - (Mid-Level or Senior)

Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) Lab Test is seeking an experienced Lab Test System Safety Engineer who will lead exciting system safety activities of complex advanced aerospace programs in Berkeley, MO.

The ideal candidate will perform safety risk management assessments of complex system designs throughout the life cycle of a product and program.   This includes hazard identification, risk assessment, safety requirements development, mitigation verification, and compliance with applicable regulatory and company safety standards.

This position supports senior leadership and individual contributors to help them understand and apply their daily responsibilities within Boeing’s Safety Management System (SMS).  Focus will be on product and “test” service safety in highly complex and dynamic lab test environments including Structures, Electromagnetic, Polysonic Wind tunnel, Metrology, Environmental and Thermodynamics testing.

This role requires; a systems thinking approach to mitigate risks along with a keen awareness and understanding of test hazards, the ability to work collaboratively across a broad section of program and test capabilities to support the test capabilities statement of work and the development of product and “test” service safety requirements in the design process and throughout BT&E’s Product Test Life Cycle (PTLC) and the lifecycle of a program. The selected candid will lead Safety Action Groups (SAGs), promote a positive safety culture, and actively apply elements associated with all four SMS pillars.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Mid-Level and Senior Level Lab Test System Safety Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

Conducts system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns and quantifies impact

Identifies safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices

Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements; incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures

Performs or reviews tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements

Creates and maintains aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes

Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standard

Develops and maintains safety and corrective action plans

Assists with demonstrating safety hazard risk mitigations and control methods to the customer and regulators

Ensures mission success through execution of Mission Assurance activities throughout the program lifecycle

Contributes to establishing global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

Experience working with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams

Experience performing analyses, preparing presentations and reports for program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews

Experience presenting oral and written system safety and risk presentations to peers, program management, senior leadership, and customers

Experience working with safety analyses such as Risk Assessments, Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), etc.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

Level 4: 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

3+ years of experience in systems safety engineering   

3+ years of experience with system safety analysis

Experience with product safety or quality management experience, ideally with safety management systems, safety risk management processes and leading hazard analyses for novel systems

Environmental Health Safety (EHS) background and experience

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is desirable and/or 3+ years of EHS experience

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range for Experienced (Level 3):  $97,750 – $132,250

Summary Pay Range for Senior level (Level 4):  $119,850 – $162,150
