Responsible for the chemical and/or physical analysis of raw materials and finished products. Prepares standard solutions and keeps control of the results, materials and reagents. The position of Laboratory Technician reports to the Engineering Manager.
“The Laboratory Technician is responsible for final release inspections of compounded and extruded products to ensure they meet all specified requirements. Inspection data is recorded and stored electronically in line with ISO standards. The technician also supports the Quality Management System and contributes to root cause investigations using practical problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Responsibilities include:
· Proficient in the use of a lab extruder and able to make various samples for testing
· Transferable skills in laboratory test equipment to learn industry relevant test methods to include: LOI, moisture, specific gravity, melt index, oven aging, durometer, tensile, elongation, and dimensional inspections using microscope and calipers
· Manage sample retains inventory- including collection, storage and disposal
· Support calibration protocols for ISO 9001 and interface with calibration vendors
· Document custodian- responsible for creating and updating CCG documents. This will include managing SOPs for the production process and testing procedures.
· Member of the quality council and bring a root cause analysis mindset via exposure to lean principles.
· Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Knowledge and Skills Required:
· Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
· Excellent communication skills, this includes verbal and written communication that is transferable to all levels of organization, i.e. cross-functional communication to inform leadership and support operators.
· Proactive nature and mind-set to actively influence continuous improvement
· Able to change priorities quickly in response to customer demands
· Able to make decisions, autonomous mindset when faced with business challenges
· Understanding of Lean Concepts to include root cause analysis, 5 whys, fishbone, document investigation, and corrective action write-ups
