Summary
The Laboratory Tech Assistant is responsible for day-to-day analysis of samples arriving in the laboratory ensuring they meet proper specifications.
This is a regular full-time position based in Delta. The regular working hours are Monday through Friday. However, hours of work can change based on the operational needs of the business.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Provides chemical & physical QA/QC analysis in support of the lower mainland facility operations
Ensures incoming samples are received, processed accurately, completed in a timely manner and archived
Responsible for reporting concerns about samples, analytical results and equipment problems to the Laboratory Supervisor
Assists in the development and implementation of QA/QC policies and procedures
Maintains laboratory housekeeping standards in accordance with the Laboratory Manual and industry accepted laboratory practices
Performs routine instrument preventative maintenance
Ordering, tracking and maintaining inventory of day-to-day laboratory supplies as required
Provides technical support on assigned projects
Provides insight into and interpretation of analytical results
Familiar with internal and external industry specifications that support the business
Ensures that results, reports & product release forms (including certificates of analysis) are completed, recorded and appropriately reported/distributed in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
Maintains a good general knowledge of the process, the products and the customers
Comply with Corporate & regulatory policies and procedures.
Understands and uses the Workplace Hazardous Material Information System
Maintains the Laboratory S.D.S. database
Experience & Education
Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a fairly clean commercial driving abstract is required
Post-secondary education in environmental sciences, chemistry, biology, or equivalent is strongly preferred
Prior experience in hazardous waste industry or related field would be a definite asset
Technical knowledge in lab packing, unknown identification and hazard assessments are highly desirable
Working knowledge in BC Hazardous Waste Regulation, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and WHMIS
Use of Air Purifying respirator (APR) requires individual to be clean shaven.
Strong proficiency in computer and mobile device operation, including effective utilization of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows, and other software applications.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to perform physical tasks including shoveling, lifting, moving containers and other heavy materials
Energetic, detail oriented with excellent organizational, problem solving, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
Enthusiastic self-starter with a strong work ethic and proven track record for success
Adaptive to constant changes in business environment and demands
Reliable team player that is supportive of co-workers
Prior knowledge in First Aid / CPR, H2S Alive, Fall Protection awareness, NORM Awareness would be an asset
Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, such as Excel, Word and Outlook
