The Garcia-Blanco Lab in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to work on projects investigating RNA-protein interactions in the context of autoimmune diseases and viral infections. More information on the lab can be found here. Research activities will include, but not be limited to, propagating and titrating virus stocks, routine tissue culture, general molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid isolation, RT-PCR, RNAseq). The Lab Specialist will also have tasks related to laboratory maintenance. This includes training, organizing common laboratory areas and reagents, ordering supplies, preparing stock solutions, organizing and maintaining virus stocks.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: 2 years of experience. 4 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Attention to detail in experimental work and record keeping
Ability to handle multiple assignments, self-motivation and eagerness to acquire new skills.
Preference will be given to candidates with a background in Virology and/or Molecular Biology, and experience with tissue culture techniques.
