Lab Tech Assistant - Histology/Cytology - St. Elizabeth Health Center
Job Summary:
The Lab Tech Assistant will work under the supervision of the trained Histology and Cytology techs and will be responsible for laboratory duties as assigned. These tasks include, preparing specimens for analysis by registering and accessioning orders, verifying specimen acceptability, and performs established pre-analytical and analytical laboratory procedures. In addition, the Lab Tech Assistant will perform phlebotomy and specimen collection according to established procedures from patients, to ensure that they are properly processed. Responsibilities include maintaining inventory, stocking, waived testing, and slide preparation.
Essential Functions:
Provides excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner Collect blood specimens from patients, following established venipuncture procedures and transport specimens to the testing laboratory to ensure specimen integrityProvides support to technologists by assisting with the loading and maintaining of instruments, making up of reagents, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing of blood productsRecognizes instrument and equipment malfunctions and keeps appropriate person(s) informed of problems, issues, and resolutions as neededPerforms departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stock supplies, answer phones when needed Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly Other duties as assignedEducation:
High School Degree or GEDAssociates Degree in Biology/Chemistry preferred, but not requiredExperience:
Laboratory experience preferred, but not requiredKeyboarding or data experience preferred, but not requiredSkills & Abilities:
