Job Title: Lab Assistant I - 1st Shift (Micro)Job Description The Lab Assistant I will be responsible for handling clinical lab specimens, including retrieving samples from storage or walk-in fridges for technicians to retest. The role involves a significant amount of labeling and pouring specimens, with up to 200-300 samples processed at once. You will also scan specimens into a tracking system, ensuring accurate tracking and data entry. Responsibilities + Receive and sort clinical lab specimens. + Prepare specimens for testing and analysis. + Scan and/or enter specimen and patient information into tracking systems. + Ensure all lab equipment is functioning properly and perform minor maintenance tasks. + Troubleshoot any issues related to specimens. + Replenish test bench supplies as needed. + Maintain a clean and safe work environment. + Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested. + Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards. Essential Skills + Experience in a medical or lab setting, including academic experience. + High school diploma or GED. + Ability to stand for the majority of the shift. + Comfortable handling human samples. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Must be at least 18 years old. + Experience in laboratory processing or as a laboratory assistant. Work Environment The position is scheduled for Sunday through Thursday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Employees receive two paid 15-minute breaks and one unpaid 30-minute break. The work is contract-only, with potential for permanent roles in the future. The role involves light lifting and carrying, with a requirement to lift and push up to 10-15 pounds. The majority of the shift involves standing and working in walk-in fridges, with rotations ensuring you are not in the fridges for the entire shift. Successful lab assistants have the opportunity to be promoted to Technologist, providing a significant salary increase. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.50 - $16.50/hr.
