Job Overview:

Handles the collection, preparation, accessioning, and clerical and non-technical operational aspects of the department for efficient, cost-effective and timely production of medical diagnostic interpretations on surgical pathology specimens. 

Qualifications:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

Associates degreeAt least 6 months previous experience in an anatomic or clinical laboratory

Essential Functions:

Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs instruments and lab equipment if possibleMaintains all necessary QC, QA, maintenance and repair records required by accreditation agenciesReconciles patient identifiers between specimens and requisitions prior to accession and communicates, investigates, and resolves any discrepanciesVerifies orders from requisitions and accessions surgical cases in the LISSegregates and packs laboratory waste 45 percent according to established policiesWorks on special projects as requested by the Supervisor and, or DirectorAssists in the training of new employees and studentsApplies the knowledge and skills necessary to assess data reflective of each patient's status and provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatricOther duties as assigned
