Job Description
Under the direction of department leadership, the Laboratory Assistant performs clerical and other technical lab duties in a timely and accurate manner,
exceeding customer expectations. This role involves executing daily scheduled tasks, taking initiative, and striving to improve work processes based on
laboratory and client needs. The position aligns with and supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization, as well as department goals and
objectives. The Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in providing lifesaving diagnostic services to patients and providers.
Responsibilities
+ Understand and perform all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
+ Support leadership during audits.
+ Ship, receive, and track packages and specimens while maintaining the integrity of samples.
+ Receive, classify, and process specimens accurately and expediently.
+ Inspect specimens and paperwork for accuracy and acceptability.
+ Maintain sample identity and ensure samples are handled and stored at appropriate temperatures.
+ Use appropriate systems to accurately perform data entry functions.
+ Proofread work for content, spelling, accuracy, and document format.
+ Prepare samples for laboratory testing as needed.
+ Perform reagent preparation when necessary.
+ Operate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance and calibration on equipment.
+ Identify and document sample issues or discrepancies and work with clients to resolve them.
+ Answer telephone calls and respond to email requests with professionalism and courtesy.
+ Research and resolve issues with prompt follow-up to customers.
+ Use written and verbal communication skills to provide exemplary customer service.
+ Maintain organization of departmental records.
+ Support the maintenance of reagent and supply inventory.
+ Work weekend and holiday rotations as scheduled.
+ Train others on job tasks as assigned.
+ Maintain all applicable competencies and continuing education credits.
+ Perform duties in accordance with laboratory policies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High School diploma with 6+ months of work experience in production or healthcare Associate's degree in life science or a science-adjacent field with retail/serving/fast-paced experience Bachelor's degree in a science-adjacent field Phlebotomy, processing, or healthcare experience
Work Environment
The position involves working Monday to Thursday from 8 PM to 6:30 AM. The lab is divided into three areas: a reference lab, HLA (DNA testing), and testing labs. This role is situated in the testing lab, which services not only the Indiana but all of the Blood Centers of Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan). The dress code includes scrubs or business casual attire with long pants and comfortable, clean, closed-toe shoes. The equipment used includes centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, and microscopes.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $21.31/hr.
