The successful candidate will be part of a 4-member team working alone in the lab to cover 24 hours on a rotating shift. He/she will be a member of a shift-based and plant-wide team that consistently manufactures high quality products to meet Dow Coatings Business objectives in a safe, efficient, cost-effective and environmentally sound manner. The Polymers Laboratory Analyst will utilize knowledge and experience to safely qualify all the material produced by the plant staff. Persons filling this job are expected to become qualified within 2 months of training. Successful performance requires an individual to work alone as part of an effectively empowered team. In addition, the individual is expected to develop basic process and product knowledge, to conduct shift rounds, to become proficient in troubleshooting equipment, to complete minor maintenance, and to act as an owner for the equipment they use on a daily basis. Polymers Laboratory Analysts are expected to complete other tasks to ensure safe and effective operation of the lab, such as shipping samples, writing/updating procedures, performing instrument calibration checks, making standard solutions, and supporting continuous improvement efforts through individual efforts and teams. The job also requires above average communication and interpersonal effectiveness in the frequent interactions with engineers, warehouse personnel, activity coordinators, reactor operators and logistics operators. This role will work in a Union environment, and the pay starts at $31.51. Responsibilities: + Follow established procedures including AWP (Analytical Work Process), EH&S, ODMS, and safety/environmental checklists to ensure compliance and operational integrity. + Conduct routine and non-routine sample analyses, including production, shipping, split lots, customer complaint samples, and shelf-life extension testing. + Operate and maintain lab equipment, performing inspections, basic maintenance, and setup/testing of new instruments as needed. + Utilize digital tools such as SAP, Excel, Word, SharePoint, Email, Logbook, and MTL for documentation, communication, and data management. + Evaluate and interpret analytical data, applying basic statistics and control charts to validate results and take appropriate action. + Monitor analytical systems, troubleshoot first-line issues, escalate problems, and suggest improvements to processes and tools. + Document and communicate findings, ensuring results are archived properly and shift events are accurately recorded in the Logbook. + Support lab operations, including performing shift rounds, ordering supplies, maintaining housekeeping standards, arranging shift coverage, and coordinating emergency maintenance. + Perform operational tasks as assigned, including field checks, equipment prep, rework, and sample handling per MTL task list. + Participate in investigations and change management, including Root Cause Investigations, MOCs, and procedure development. + Review and manage sample records, including batch cards, sample usage decisions, split lots, and COA acceptance for raw materials. + Develop personal goals aligned with plant and business objectives to support continuous improvement and team success. Required Qualifications: + A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent + 2+ years of relevant experience (Lab setting, chemical process operations, etc) + Understanding of basic mathematics and use of formulas + Wiling and able to work a rotating shift + A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
