Lab Analyst II

Airswift is looking for a Lab Analyst to work within one of our petrochemical clients’ facilities for a long-term contract in Pasadena, TX.
Responsibilities: Promote and support a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible work environment. Follow all safety rules and policies. Support the Process Safety and Risk Management goals and objectives. Participate in site-wide Process Safety and Risk Reduction activities as requested. Strive to continuously improve the quality process. Demonstrate outstanding leadership and technical ability to follow through on projects without supervision. Serve as the Lab SMC by performing method audits of both lab analysts and production technicians. Recommends enhancements to procedures and corrects poor lab practices. Develops new methods and analysis for laboratory and trains existing lab analysts. Coordinate day to day activities of the lab. In supervisor’s absence provide work instructions to the lab analysts. Considered the “resident expert” on methods and procedures, with advanced troubleshooting skills and knowledge of equipment functionality and repair and demonstrates a high mechanical aptitude. Provide input, process support, and direction to other analysts on shift. Provide lab and technical support to other facilities. Manage and maintain the laboratory supplies inventory. Practice good housekeeping. Perform routine analyses, including control samples and calibration checks, without supervision. Be thoroughly familiar with and able to operate instrumentation, such as: analytical balances, spectrometers, viscometers, gas chromatographs, roll mill and extrusion testing, particle size distribution, and Brabenders. Troubleshoot lab instrumentation and interpret results. Develop new testing techniques using lab instrumentation. Record results legibly or make computer entry accurately for use by Lab and plant personnel. Critical or off-spec results are reported to Operations immediately. All work sheets and applicable control charts must be properly maintained. Coordinate activities closely with production, loading and utility personnel. Required skills: Experience with environmental sampling and sample handling. Experience with Agilent Gas Chromatographs and OpenLab/ChemStation software. Experience with Karl Fischer moisture titration Ability to troubleshoot and repair minor instrument issues with minimal guidance. Experience with Thermo Sample Manager LIMS system. Experience in a manufacturing environment Education: Chemistry degree is preferred or a related technical degree. Minimum of 2-3 years of testing experience within chemical lab setting.
