About the Role Stantec’s Calgary office is seeking a motivated Junior Facility Condition Assessor to join our Facility Assessment team within the Buildings Specialty Services Group. This team specializes in evaluating the architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire/life safety systems of buildings. Our assessments help our clients make informed decisions regarding capital planning, maintenance, acquisitions/dispositions of buildings, and asset management. This opportunity requires up to 20% Travel. Your Opportunity As a Junior Facility Condition Assessor, you will participate in the evaluation of diverse building types. You’ll help prepare detailed condition reports, reserve fund studies, and capital expenditure forecasts. This position gives you an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills while working alongside a multidisciplinary team with over 25 years of experience in facility assessments. Your Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Team Leader, your duties will include: Conducting on-site assessments of various building types (commercial, residential institutional, recreational and light industrial): + Identifying and documenting property features. + Evaluating existing building systems and components. + Performing field measurements. + Organizing and analyzing collected field data. + Estimating material quantities for capital planning. + Preparing detailed technical reports to support client decision-making. + Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and working independently. + Balancing approximately 20% field work with 80% office-based reporting. Your Capabilities and Competencies + Understanding of construction processes and/or building operations. + Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings. + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). + Team-oriented with a proactive and adaptable mindset. + Experience with facility assessment software (e.g., VFA, EDR Parcel) would be considered an asset. + Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Canada (mainly in western Canada). + Eagerness to learn about building systems beyond your core discipline. + Experience in writing technical reports is an asset but not required. + Familiarity with Building Codes, bylaws, and industry standards is an asset but not required. + Knowledge of financial planning concepts (e.g., costing, inflation, reserve funds) would be considered an asset. Education and Experience Graduate of a university or technical college program in a construction-related discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or Structural). Alternatively, a recognized certification in a construction trade or in the building operations field. Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction, renovation, facility maintenance or building operation is an asset. Typical hybrid office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for periods of time with standard ergonomic sit-stand desks.
