Job DescriptionThis role serves as a Contracts Negotiator within European Contract Services, providing strategic legal and transactional support to the Bank and its business lines. The position is responsible for managing the end-to-end vendor contracting lifecycle—including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex agreements—while ensuring full compliance with European and local laws, as well as U.S. Bank policies and regulatory standards. This is a 12 month fixed term contract.
Key accountabilities:
Manage the full vendor contracting process, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and analyzing risk in contract terms and conditions.
Ensure all vendor contracts comply with applicable European/local laws, U.S. federal and state regulations, and U.S. Bank policies.
Draft, review, and revise a variety of contractual instruments involving U.S. Bank’s interests or those of its customers.
Use standard contract templates and negotiate legal terms in vendor agreements.
Collaborate with the Legal Department on complex legal issues related to vendor contracts.
Advise business lines and Corporate Procurement on risk decisions and contract strategies, supporting assigned initiatives.
Provide guidance on contractual risk management and mitigation to stakeholders at all levels, including senior management.
Analyze contractual scenarios and recommend appropriate documentation, including contract consolidation to reduce redundancy.
Support regulatory projects and exception negotiations, ensuring alignment with Enterprise Risk and Compliance policies.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and external legal representatives.
Act as a key resource in contract negotiations and execution across multiple business lines.
Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including Senior and Executive Management.
Navigate broad and complex assignments with a deep understanding of business line objectives and regulatory frameworks.
Skills & experience required:
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
One to two years of experience in procurement contract administration activities
Preferred Skills/Experience
Basic understanding of applicable laws, regulations, financial services and regulatory trends that impact the assigned business line
Basic understanding of contract structure and terms required to fulfill regulatory obligations
Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
Ability to identify and resolve/escalate complex problems
Ability to research and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Strong organizational skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills

This is a 12 month fixed term contract
The role offers a hybrid / flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.
