The Technologist III/Mechanical Technician is responsible for the overall maintenance of mechanical equipment and mechanical system, as well as some fabrication at the Niagara Falls Service Center, NY.This is a challenging and rewarding job that requires sound technical abilities in compressors maintenance, and other rotation equipment, fabrication of manifolds and small equipment and systems with training provided in site-specific applications. The Technologist III/Mechanical Technician must demonstrate initiative in handling issues, be self-motivated and dependable.This individual works with minimal supervision during field trips and must demonstrate initiative and good communication skill to address challenges. The Technologist III/Mechanical Technician is available for afterhours calls from plant operations personnel and will need to provide customer support outside of normal working hours.

The Technologist III/Mechanical Technician operates all aspects of the Linde Acetylene and high-pressure plants, from corrective and preventive maintenance standpoint.They maintain compressors, pumps, valves, motors, and related equipment. This individual should have expertise to install, start-up, operate, and shut down acetylene supply systems located at customer sites typically within a three-to-five-hour drive from the home location and occasionally this position will travel to locations outside the assigned area to support other plants and/or for training. This position will report to Engineering Project Manager and be based in Niagara Falls, NY.

Primary Responsibilities:

Maintain all Safety, Quality, and Compliance activities at each customer installation performing site inspections or site maintenances.Installation, start up, decommissioning of installation High pressure and Acetylene supply systems (compressors, purifiers, filling manifold, etc.)Coordinates and performs routine preventive and corrective maintenance and adjustments on a variety of process equipment including centrifugal and reciprocating compressorsMonitoring the availability of parts and replenishing supplies as well as physical inventory control.Troubleshooting mechanical malfunctions and breakdowns, as well as performing repairsOversees location Contractor Safety ProgramOversees location's Process Safety Mechanical Integrity ProgramAssists in the development and review of standard operating proceduresUtilizes hand and portable power tools and follows safe working practices through all steps of equipment repair and maintenanceMay provide advice to management regarding equipment life and usage and in researching new equipment purchasesEnsures operations technicians understand and follow safe working practices through all steps of equipment repair and maintenanceCoordinates and oversees the movement of materials and equipment as requiredOther duties as defined

WORKING CONDITIONS

In addition to being able to sit, stand, climb, walk, read, talk, see and hear, to perform the essential functions of this job an individual must be able to do the following additional activities:

Drive a service (pickup) truck up typically 2 or 3 hours and up to 8 hours on specific occasions.Perform office work requiring sitting at the computer and other administration duties.Walking on flat or uneven surfaces and in areas of crushed stone on a daily basis.Bending, stooping, and working from just above the ground to 6-foot elevation.Use of stairs and ladders for elevated work.Lifting 5 to 15 lbs. loads is performed daily.Lifting 15 to 45 lbs. loads is done on an intermittent basis.Lifting over 45 to 75 lbs. is done occasionally.Upper body work activities, including using wrenches, hammers, and similar tools.Use of power tools such as drills, jack harmer, etc.Normal work week of 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.On-call for plant issues during off hours. Provided company cell phone, laptop, and service truck.
