Junior Mine Accountant

 

Position Description:

The Junior Mine Accountant is responsible for providing accounting and administrative support to the Finance Department at the Hemlo Mine Site. This role assists with daily accounting functions, month-end processes, and financial reporting while ensuring adherence to company policies and internal controls. Working closely with the Senior Accountant, the Junior Mine Accountant helps maintain accurate and timely financial records to support operational decision making and compliance with corporate and regulatory standards.

 

 

Responsibilities:

Assist in the preparation and posting of journal entries, accruals, and adjustments during month-end close.Support reconciliation of general ledger and balance sheet accounts, maintaining supporting documentation.Assist with invoice processing, purchase orders, and expense reports in compliance with financial controls.Prepare and update cost tracking spreadsheets and variance reports for operational departments.Assist with capital project reporting and fixed asset reconciliations.Support the preparation of management and financial reports, ensuring accuracy and consistency of data.Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts by gathering, reviewing, and organizing data.Maintain accurate and organized financial files for audit and review purposes.Support internal and external audit requirements as requested.Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the Finance Department to streamline reporting and documentation processes.Perform other related accounting duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

College diploma or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Commerce, or a related field.1–3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably within a mining or industrial environment.Basic knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS preferred).Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.Experience using systems such as SAP, OneStream, or equivalent is considered an asset.Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and commitment to learning and professional development.Working toward or interest in pursuing a CPA designation is an asset.
