Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION This National Guard position is for a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (Title 5), Position Description Number T5235P01 and is part of the AR ARNG JOINT FORCE HQ AR, National Guard. Responsibilities 1. Design, implement, and maintain complex network infrastructure solutions utilizing Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls. This includes creating detailed network diagrams and documentation. 2. Deep understanding and hands-on experience configuring, troubleshooting, and optimizing BGP routing protocols in a large-scale network environment. Must be able to analyze BGP peering sessions, troubleshoot routing policies, and implement best practices for scalability and redundancy. 3. Deep understanding and hands-on experience configuring, troubleshooting, and optimizing OSPF routing protocols in a large-scale network environment. Must be able to analyze OSPF adjacencies, troubleshoot routing loops, and implement best practices for scalability and redundancy. 4. Serve as a Tier 3 escalation point for complex network issues. Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Cisco DNA Center) to proactively identify and resolve network problems. 5. Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize network efficiency and reliability. 6. Ensure network operations comply with relevant DoD and Army regulations. 7. Proficient in the configuration and management of a wide range of Cisco devices, including routers (ASR, ISR) and switches (Catalyst, Nexus) 8. Works closely with IT service providers to optimize support and integration of new technologies. 9. May be assigned to assist the Operations Manager by performing limited leader responsibilities. Distributes and balances workload among employees. Gives on-the-job training to lower-graded employees. Provides input into annual performance appraisals. Resolves simple complaints and grievances, referring the more serious ones to the supervisor. Recommends training needs for employees. Provides input to the supervisor concerning selections, promotions, reassignments, recognition of outstanding performance. 10. Performs other duties as assigned. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. Must be able to obtain/maintain appropriate security clearance Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. Incumbent must complete appropriate training and obtain required certifications IAW DoDI 8140 or DOD 8570.01M or applicable governing document(s) for Cyber workforce as an IA Technician Level within 9 months of employment pending training seat availability. Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. Head of Agency requests to exceed 14 days in a calendar year must be approved in advance by the National Guard, Director of Manpower andPersonnel (NGB-J1). Must hold a current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Work in this series includes managing, supervising, leading, administering, developing, delivering, and supporting information technology (IT) systems and services. This series covers only those positions for which the paramount requirement is knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and methods, e.g., data storage, software applications, networking. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade. In addition to the OPM IORs (Alternative A) specialized experience examples, specialized experience includes experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion. Education Additional Information Veteran Preference may apply if the first area of consideration are not met.
