Responsibilities NON-APPROPRIATED POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: IT Specialist BUSINESS TITLE: IT Specialist (Computer Services) FLSA : Nonexempt JOB SERIES: 2210 PAY LEVEL: NF-03 INTRODUCTION: This position is located within the Information Management Branch, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS). The purpose of this position is to assist the Technical Services Manager by performing intermediate to advanced technical support and troubleshooting of Point of Sale (POS) systems. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Independently, sets up, implements, and maintains a variety of Information Systems computers, servers and networks throughout the organization. Maintains and provides technical assistance to local functional administrative users to minimize operational disruptions in MCCS facilities. Identifies user requests or problems and determines the best possible solution by taking actions such as manipulating files, modifying application programs, or resolving hardware problems. Installs administrative standardized system software to include required network and backup utilities. Integrates information systems database information with the MCCS Management Information Systems (MIS) information support systems. Trains and assists MCCS administrative level representatives with information systems operations and procedures. Upgrades information systems software as required to support requirements. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment See Duties and Qualifications EVALUATIONS: Qualifications PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Work requires lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Must be at least 18 years old AND have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.) Experience in an administrative environment using information systems security and information assurance systems and procedures. Minimum of two (2) years of experience is desirable. Must have or be able to obtain in 12 months of employment, CompTIA A+ certification. Must have or be able to obtain in 12 months of employment, a certification to meet or exceed DoDD 8570 IAT Level 2 security compliancy. CompTIA Security+. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Detailed knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of hardware components and equipment configuration to resolve problems and assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the MCCS Information system. Minimum of two (2) years experience is desirable. Knowledge of computer networking including Windows networking environment, TCP/IP and Ethernet. Detailed experience with all versions of Microsoft Windows, and all versions of Microsoft Office. General working knowledge of database storage, linked databases, file servers and maintenance of database on file servers. Ability to communicate effectively in order to provide the required support for which this position entails. This position has been designated as a position of trust. The incumbent must be eligible for a Tier 3 (Secret Clearance) background investigation to satisfy IT Level II designation. Appointment and continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of the security investigation. This activity is a Drug-free workplace.
