Responsibilities
The Senior Manager of Laboratory Technology will be responsible for the implementation, operation, and ongoing optimization of laboratory-specific technology systems supporting a new, stand-alone laboratory and company wholly owned by Mayo Collaborative Services (MCS). Reporting to the IT Director, this role plays a critical part in building laboratory technology capabilities in a new laboratory environment, while maintaining alignment with Mayo governance, security, and quality standards during early operations.
This role has primary accountability for laboratory technology platforms, including laboratory information systems, middleware, instrument integrations, data flows, and laboratory-specific applications. Technology services will be delivered through close collaboration with the Mayo Collaborative Services technology team and managed service provider relationships, with responsibility for system reliability, regulatory compliance, validation, and alignment with laboratory workflows.
Working closely with laboratory operations, quality, compliance, and IT partners, the Senior Manager will lead system implementations, upgrades, and steady-state operations, ensuring highly available, well-controlled laboratory systems that support clinical quality and operational efficiency. The role requires hands-on leadership in regulated laboratory environments and experience supporting mission-critical laboratory technology.
This position is a limited-tenure role intended to support the formation, launch, and stabilization of the new company and laboratory. As the organization matures, the role is expected to transition to a permanent laboratory technology leadership position within a separate company operating independently from Mayo Collaborative Services.
The ideal candidate will bring experience leading laboratory technology in clinical, reference, or commercial laboratory settings, with the ability to operate autonomously while remaining aligned with a broader enterprise governance, security, and compliance framework.
This position is not eligible for sponsorship/we will not sponsor or transfer a visa for this role. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F1-STEM OPT extension program.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, Design, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in digital product, technology operations, service delivery, or equivalent roles. Demonstrated experience managing teams, influencing strategy, and implementing complex organizational initiatives.
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Information Systems, or related discipline preferred.
Requires frequent travel including to national lab facilities and Mayo Collaborative Services headquarters in Rochester, MN.
