Job Description

The ISO 27001 Compliance Specialist serves as the primary subject matter expert for all ISO 27001 related matters within the Benelux countries. The role is responsible for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving the Information Security Management System (ISMS) to ensure ongoing ISO 27001 certification for the Benelux IT department and industrial business units. Operating within the Infrastructure and Security team, the position supports a diverse environment including waste management, water treatment, and energy services, as well as related IT back office functions.

While the role-holder is the sole regional adviser initially, they are part of a supportive infrastructure and security team and can expect close cooperation with both local subject matter experts and our international ISO teams.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the ISO 27001 compliant ISMS for the Benelux regionIdentify gaps or absences in security controls and advise on their necessity in alignment with the ISO 27001 frameworkConduct regular internal audits and gap analyses to identify and address areas for improvementLiaise with certification bodies and external auditors during assessment processesPrepare and maintain documentation and evidence required for certification and surveillance auditsDevelop and deliver ISO 27001 awareness training for staff across business functionsMonitor and report on compliance status to senior management and stakeholdersCoordinate remediation activities for identified non-conformitiesCollaborate with IT, operational technology teams, and business units to support the implementation of appropriate security controlsSupport risk assessment and treatment processes within the certification scopeProvide expert guidance on ISO 27001 requirements to project teams and stakeholdersEstablish and track metrics to measure ISMS effectiveness

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

ISO 27001 Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor certificationMinimum 3 years of experience implementing or maintaining ISO 27001 certified environmentsDemonstrable knowledge of information security frameworks and standardsStrong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and security control implementationExperience conducting internal audits and preparing for certification assessmentsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)Excellent documentation skills for creating and maintaining policies, procedures, and records

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in industrial environments, particularly waste management, water, or energy sectorsAwareness of operational technology (OT) security and industrial control systemsKnowledge of related standards such as ISO 22301, ISO 9001, or ISO 14001Additional security certifications (CISSP, CISM, or similar)Experience with governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) toolsExperience achieving initial ISO 27001 certification for an organisation
