Inventory Control Manager – Job Description Position Summary
The Inventory Control Manager is responsible for overseeing all inventory‑related processes within the store to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role maintains the integrity of product movement, shrink control, backroom organization, and inventory procedures. The Inventory Control Manager partners closely with Store Leadership, Department Managers, and Loss Prevention to uphold company standards and support operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities Inventory Accuracy & Management Maintain accurate perpetual inventory levels across all departments. Lead and coordinate all inventory counts, including cycle counts, audits, and annual physical inventory. Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Ensure all inventory adjustments adhere to company policies. Monitor product movement reports and make proactive recommendations to reduce shrink. Operational Execution Oversee receiving processes, ensuring all deliveries are properly checked in, documented, and stored according to company guidelines. Ensure backroom and storage areas remain organized, compliant, and optimized for efficiency. Partner with department teams to maintain accurate ordering practices and replenishment routines. Monitor product dating, rotation, and best practices to minimize out‑of‑code shrink. Compliance & Reporting Ensure adherence to company standards for inventory, backroom operations, shrink control, and safety procedures. Maintain all inventory records, logs, and required documentation. Prepare and distribute inventory‑related reports to Store Leadership. Support corporate and district initiatives by executing required audits and follow‑up actions. Leadership & Collaboration Provide training and guidance to store teams on inventory best practices. Collaborate with Department Managers to ensure alignment on stock levels, seasonal planning, and operational needs. Work closely with Loss Prevention regarding shrink trends, investigations, and prevention strategies. Support new hire and ongoing education for inventory‑related systems and tools. Qualifications Prior experience in retail operations, receiving, inventory control, or equivalent supervisory role preferred. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Proficiency in inventory systems, reporting tools, and basic computer applications. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to train and influence others. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move product for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs as needed. Comfortable working in backroom, cooler, and freezer environments. Work Environment Works primarily in the store’s backroom, receiving areas, sales floor, and occasionally outdoors during deliveries. May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on business needs.
