Interventional Vascular Technologists are specialized Interventional Radiologists that support the most cutting-edge therapies offered at Cleveland Clinic. They provide technical assistance in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures as well as acquire all imaging and post processing of images. 

 

 A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 5:30PM plus call.

 
A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Utilize sterile or aseptic techniques to scrub in and perform vascular, interventional, and surgical procedures per protocol. 

Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment, and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation. 

Ensure patients safety and comfort during and after exams. 

Demonstrate understanding of primary purpose of drugs used in IR, indications, contraindications, contrast drug interactions and major effects. 

Record and maintain procedural data to include injection data, elapsed fluoroscopic time and procedural information. 

Monitor equipment, systems, clean equipment, and effects timely repair. 

Learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation sessions. 

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology  

Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT) and in good standing  

Current state licensure as a Radiology Technologist  

Basic Life Support certification  

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

One year of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist 

Certification in Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography: R.T.(R)(CV)(ARRT) or Vascular-Interventional Radiology: R.T.(R)(VI)(ARRT) 

Knowledge of radiologic physics and computerized vascular equipment to safely inject and image human vascular anatomy 

Knowledge of vascular anatomy and pathology sufficient to apply to interventional and diagnostic exams

Physical Requirements:

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
