Interpreting Services Coordinator

**Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8a-4:30p - 40hrs**

**A Brief Overview**
Coordinates interpreting services department functions to support patients and caregivers who communicate in languages other than English. Responsible for understanding and overseeing ADA requirements relating to patient access to services.
**Essential Functions**
+ Provides coordination and support for interpreting department
+ Oversees the onboarding process and daily processes for interpreters, primarily contracted staff
+ Develops and maintains relationships with interpreter agencies, including regular communication
+ Teaches interpreting skills, as needed
+ Assists the Manager of Interpreting services to coordinate the recruiting hiring, and onboarding of interpreters
+ Assists the Manager of Interpreting services with coordination of annual performance management duties for staff and contracted interpreters
+ Prioritizes and coordinates daily work activities for contracted interpreters, including scheduling and coordination with clinic and hospital staff as needed .
+ Collaborates with key areas (legal, finance, human resources, etc.) to support contracted services and agencies as needed
+ Maintains accurate and complete records and documentation, including and listing of interpreters, agencies, etc. agreements for services, invoicing records, etc.
+ Serves as the primary resource for maintaining and training of scheduling/invoicing systems for the department
+ Oversees delivery of services via Over the Phone (OPI) and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)
+ Maintains accurate and complete listing of phone & video equipment
+ Coordinates with IT for network or wi-fi concerns, and escalates equipment concerns that cannot be handled internally
+ Collaborates with interpreter service vendors to maintain timely and effective support, agreements, or relationships
+ Provides coordination of interpreting and translation services in compliance with ADA law and related policies
+ Serves as a main point of contact for Deaf and hard of hearing patients and/or guardians
+ Responsible for scheduling interpreters as needed
+ Educates staff regarding access to services for Deaf or hard of hearing
+ Maintains current listing of interpreters and disseminates as necessary
+ Maintains access to technology (iPads, TTY etc.) with communication access for Deaf and hard of hearing patients and families
+ Assists Interpreting Services manager to ensure provision of interpreting and translation services to patients and families.
+ Analyzes processes and procedures and makes recommendations and/or decisions on guidelines for daily processes/activities within department. Recommends policy changes related to the department or Children’s. Implements new or revised policies, processes, and procedures.
+ Assists with annual budget process
+ Makes decisions guided by the business plan and resource availability that impacts service levels and the team’s ability to meet objectives in an efficient, effective, and quality manner.
+ Assists with outsourcing of written translation requests
+ Interprets for non-English speaking patients in one or more languages
+ Demonstrates proficient knowledge and skills in English and one other language needed at Children’s to support patients and families
+ Interprets for non-English speaking patients and families during encounters with physicians, nurses, other staff members, and possibly outside agencies. Supports the Patient Experience of non-English speaking patients and caregivers
**Education Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university related to languages, communication, or health care field required. Equivalent work experience may substitute for education. Required
**Experience Qualifications**
+ Minimum 2 years of interpreting experience Preferred
**Skills and Abilities**
+ Basic knowledge of drafting reports, conducting research and/ or data presentation.
+ Proficient knowledge of the business unit / department and product knowledge or processes.
+ Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
+ Fluent in English and at least one other language spoken by patients and caregivers at CHMC
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ Current and valid certifications as a Certified Medical Interpreter or Certified Healthcare Interpreter Preferred
