Internship Cell Technologies (m/f/d)

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Have you ever wondered how therapeutic proteins or AAV gene therapies are developed? And did you know that Roche covers the entire value chain of such medicines at Europe's largest biotech site in Penzberg?

The department Cell Technologies is part of Therapeutic modalities and pharma research and early development (pRED). This is where research and technical development of the most promising candidates for new drugs begins.

Specifically, we at the cell technologies department develop new cell lines for the production of antibody and recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) products.  We also support gene therapy portfolio projects with rAAV gene therapy designs and supplies.

You can contribute to one or all of these topics

During your internship you will be part of a dynamic team of highly motivated scientists and will learn and apply cutting-edge technologies for drug and cell line development.

You will design and build new genetic elements and vectors (promoters, gene switches) for the expression of therapeutic molecules and test them (by e.g. NGS) in a production setting.

You will have the opportunity to implement new workflows and improve existing methods for production, purification and characterization. You may work with and establish or improve automated cell culture systems.

You will also contribute to the development and implementation of new technologies inspired by synthetic biology approaches. Using state-of-the-art bioinformatics you will learn from the results and present your findings to the group.

You will take part in regular exchanges and will also have the opportunity to give presentations to colleagues from other Roche sites in Basel and the US.

That matters to us

Team player: You are very interested in helping to build excellent teams. In your teams, everyone shares success, while setbacks offer an opportunity to learn something new.

Be courageous: You tackle issues with confidence and keep things together in difficult times. You are willing to take responsibility and ownership of your projects.

Continuous learning: You are enthusiastic about the challenges of new tasks and are highly self-motivated to find innovative solutions.

You bring that with you

You are passionate about science and are currently studying biotechnology, molecular biology, cell biology or any other relevant life-science subject at a university or similar.

Being enrolled is a formal requirement for the internship.

During your studies, you already gained hands-on experience in molecular biology or cell culture work and are confident to work independently. You may be a generalist looking to dive deep into one topic, or a specialist looking to broaden your expertise.

Ideally, you bring knowledge in the field of data handling & analysis and can process & present them accordingly. Coding experience in python, R, mathlab, bash would be an advantage.

Good skills in English, both spoken and in writing, alongside experience in working in multi-cultural, international teams complete your profile.
