**Your role and responsibilities**
As part of IBM Quantum, our team strategizes, designs and delivers experiences that bring people together across research, industry, and academia while showcasing IBM’s commitment to and leadership in quantum computing. From major conferences, workshops, and large-scale events like Qiskit Global Summer School & IBM Quantum Developer Conference, to technical working groups and research forums, we create engagements that inspire collaboration and highlight innovation.
We’re looking for an Events & Engagements Intern to jump in and help bring these programs to life. You’ll get hands-on experience with event operations, community engagement, and cross-team projects that showcase IBM Quantum on a global stage. This role is a great fit for someone who is organized, curious, and excited to learn how technical expertise and marketing events come together behind the scenes.
Roles & Responsibilities
* Assist with planning and execution of conferences, forums, workshops, and technical activations with a focus on quantum computing
* Coordinate event logistics such as registration pages, catering, AV/furniture rentals, and booth setups
* Gather, prepare, and manage event resources such as slides, technical demos, research papers, and QR codes
* Support speaker and participant engagement, including outreach to universities, student groups, and quantum community members
* Provide live-event (sometimes in-person) support: video streaming, communication platforms, check-in, attendee services, vendor coordination, setup/teardown, etc.
* Assist with compliance coordination/reporting, budget/vendor tracking, and general data input
* Collect and analyze post-event feedback and attendance data to inform future improvements
Engagements
* Track and summarize the latest research across various areas of quantum applications
* Organize and maintain shared systems (GitHub, Airtable, Monday.com, etc.) for tracking activities
* Develop templates and standardized processes for workshops and technical engagements
* Support communications across platforms (e.g., Discord, mailing lists, forums) for community and partner interactions
* Track and assess engagements with coalitions, research/education partners, and civil society groups
* Contribute to impact assessments and identify new venues, funding opportunities, partners, or speaking opportunities
* Support responsible quantum computing efforts including internal and external education and enablement
Team-wide Support
* Contribute to event marketing and outreach efforts (e.g., highlighting milestones, research collaborations, or student programs)
* Maintain calendars, archives, and supply inventories
* Explore recommended learning paths (Quantum, community engagement/event planning, Responsible Tech)
* Participate in coffee chats with team members to broaden exposure to quantum research, industry, and event strategy
**Required technical and professional expertise**
* Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage details while keeping the bigger picture in view
* Clear and confident communication skills across written, verbal, and interpersonal formats
* Ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and deliver on deadlines in a dynamic environment
* Proficiency with productivity and collaboration tools (e.g., Excel, Airtable, Monday.com, GitHub, Slack/Discord)
* Demonstrated interest in emerging technologies, events, and community engagement
**Preferred technical and professional experience**
* Familiarity with quantum computing, computer science, related technical fields, or other emerging technologies
* Prior experience supporting communities and events through logistics, outreach, or communications
* Comfort with data analysis and reporting, including surveys, dashboards, or impact measurement
