We operate Alberta’s research and education network, host a free public cloud for researchers and pre/non commercial exploration, and run a variety of programs that provide group IT buying, champion skill growth, enhance cybersecurity, and advocate for a better and more equitable digital future.
In this role we are looking for an intermediate systems administrator with the experience or desire to work on projects to improve the lives of Albertans. The role will include initiatives such as: helping create the infrastructure for a regional security operations centre, managing local OpenStack environments, as well public clouds such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. This will also include supporting a variety of the infrastructure and services that Cybera uses every day to carry out our mission! You will also work alongside other team members to help craft best practices, approaches, and technologies to help elevate the team's overall capability.

We will ask you to:
Swap hard drives in the morning and then leverage infrastructure as code for the same project that afternoon. Support our members to help integrate our systems with theirs. Provide help desk–style support to members, including troubleshooting log ingestion issues from sources such as AWS and Microsoft Azure. Share your experience in order to support the growth of others!
As a requirement, your professional tool-kit should be well stocked with:
Previous experience working in a technical help desk role, with demonstrated ability to provide end-user support and issue resolution. Intermediate understanding of Linux—especially virtualization and containerization. Troubleshooting skills with both hardware and software. Intermediate communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.We would also love to see:
Experience with scripting languages (e.g., shell scripting, Python). Monitoring and metering concepts and experience with services such as Prometheus, Zabbix, or Grafana. Cloud Platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, Azure, and GCP. Familiarity with logging infrastructure tools such as Vector or FluentD. Knowledge of configuration management systems such as Puppet and Ansible. Basic understanding of application architecture.

This position is based in our Calgary office. Salary will be commensurate with experience. No relocation costs will be awarded.
