Job Title: ED Admitting / Sub‑Acute Admissions Specialist Note: Candidates will be cross‑trained to support both Emergency Department (ED) Admitting and Sub‑Acute Admissions. Position Summary The ED Admitting / Sub‑Acute Admissions Specialist is responsible for managing patient intake, insurance verification, and authorization processes to ensure accurate registration and appropriate reimbursement. This role works closely with clinical teams, physician offices, and external healthcare partners while providing exceptional customer service to patients and internal staff. Key Responsibilities + Confirm patient insurance coverage, identify authorization requirements, and collect accurate demographic and medical information to support proper patient account reimbursement + Utilize EPIC for patient intake, registration, and verification of demographic and insurance data + Authorize patient admissions and assign beds as appropriate + Handle claims, request authorizations, and attach referrals in accordance with payer requirements + Identify services requiring prior authorization and ensure all referral documentation is complete + Verify insurance coverage and select appropriate pre‑registration options, including: + HMO vs. PPO plans + Medicare and Medicaid (Medi‑Cal) + Collect co‑payments and clearly explain shared costs and patient financial responsibility + Receive and manage calls from case managers at other ministries and healthcare facilities + Apply working knowledge of medical terminology in daily operations + Collaborate closely with physician offices, ministries, and internal departments + Support multiple departments and remote locations as needed + Deliver exceptional customer service by creating a welcoming and professional experience for patients and internal employees, both in person and over the phone Required Skills + Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills + Ability to handle sensitive financial and medical information with professionalism and confidentiality + Effective multitasking and attention to detail in a fast‑paced hospital environment Preferred Qualifications + Experience using EPIC (preferred) + Bilingual in Spanish (highly preferred) + 3+ years of healthcare experience, preferably in a hospital setting Experience Level Expert Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Pedro, CA.
