About the Role

Chevron Australia is seeking a highly motivated Instrument & Controls Engineer to join our Wheatstone Frontline Technical Team. This residential role in Onslow offers a unique opportunity to contribute to one of Australia’s largest resource projects, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities

Champion Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices in alignment with Chevron’s Operational Excellence standards and safety management systems.

Maintain plant technical integrity by managing and troubleshooting instrument equipment and systems in accordance with safety case commitments, performance standards, and base design—including Functional Safety requirements.

Drive the close-out of safety-related actions from HAZOP/LOPA studies by reviewing Independent Protection Layers (IPLs) and addressing SIL credit gaps.

Ensure the reliability and availability of instrument equipment to meet annual delivery plans and testing requirements.

Optimize maintenance processes for instrument systems to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime.

Provide expert technical support to maintenance, production leads, and field technicians.

Key Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Instrumentation, Electrical, or related discipline).

Minimum 3 years of experience in technical support of instrument equipment within a complex oil and gas operating environment.

Strong practical knowledge of Functional Safety implementation in the process industry.

Functional Safety Engineer certification (TÜV Rheinland or equivalent) is essential.

Familiarity with Australian and international industry standards.

Solid understanding of instrumentation and control systems used in the energy sector.

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Top 3 Must-Have Skills

Proven ability to manage and troubleshoot instrument systems in line with Functional Safety and safety case requirements.

Practical experience in Functional Safety implementation in the process industry.

TÜV Rheinland (or equivalent) Functional Safety Engineer certification.
