The Institutional Research Analyst 3 is a senior-level role within the Institutional Research (IR) team, reporting directly to the Director of Institutional Research. This position plays a pivotal role in supporting the University’s data infrastructure, compliance reporting, and decision-making capabilities. This position serves as the technical lead for survey automation This role demands extensive experience managing institutional surveys and reports (e.g., IPEDS, NCAA, Fact Book, etc.), advanced technical skills in SQL and data visualization (Power BI, Tableau), and a strong understanding of higher education reporting requirements. As a key contributor to the IR team, this role provides data-driven insights aligned with the University’s Strategic Roadmap and key performance indicators. The Institutional Research Analyst 3 role requires intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a collaborative approach to continuous process improvement. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Design, build, and maintain automated data pipelines to support the submission of institutional data files to external agencies (e.g., IPEDS, CDS, US News, Princeton, AAU Data Exchange). 2. Collect, analyze, and report University-related information to internal and external entities on routine and ad-hoc basis. 3. Assist in reporting University data to support institutional decision-making. 4. Provide data and analysis to departments to support program review and accreditation needs. 5. Summarize and present data outcomes, recommendations, and methodology to leadership teams across the university. 6. Operate with intellectual curiosity and critically assess existing processes and procedures to identify opportunities for improvement. 7. Promote and facilitate data literacy across the organization. 8. Stay current with latest technology trends, including the latest in the use of AI tools to assist problem solving and data product development. 9. Mentor and transfer knowledge to other members of the institutional research team. 10. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for data processes, business logic, and survey methodologies. 11. Develop strong relationships with internal and external contacts. 12. Use AI-based platforms to automate routine tasks, such as checking for missing or inconsistent data, flagging anomalies, augmenting datasets, or debugging and refactoring code. 13. Apply AI-assisted tools to organize data, summarize open-ended responses, highlight key findings to support campus decision-making, and enhance analyses. Department Specific Functions • We are looking for an Institutional Research Analyst 3 who will support the University of Miami with insights gained from analyzing institutional data, playing a pivotal role in supporting the University’s data infrastructure, compliance reporting, and decision-making capabilities. • We’re looking for someone with 6+ years of experience with advanced technical skills in SQL and data visualization (Power BI, Tableau), and a strong understanding of higher education reporting requirements, and has a master’s or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, Economics or other social science discipline (preferred). • Deep expertise in survey management and automation, including the use of SQL, Power BI, and Tableau to streamline reporting for surveys such as IPEDS, CDS, NCAA, and U.S. News. • Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SQL, etc. • Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using Power BI, Tableau, R, etc. • Practical experience implementing AI into daily workflows for note taking, streamlining communication, and documentation. • The ideal candidate will have a drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques, apply intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and have a continuous improvement mindset. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, Economics or other social science discipline required (Doctoral degree preferred). Experience: Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience; minimum 6 years of experience in Institutional Research, Higher Education Analytics, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience leading large-scale research and data initiatives. Prior supervisory or mentorship experience preferred. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information and reports with attention to detail and accuracy. • Strategic thinking skills. • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills. • Excellent oral and written skills are preferred. • Ability to be flexible, think critically, work analytically in a problem-solving environment. • Proficiency with AI-based productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms, with demonstrated experience applying them to enhance data analysis, reporting, or decision-making. • Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SQL, etc. • Experience visualizing/presenting information using Power BI, Tableau, PowerPoint, etc. • Highly collaborative with a proactive approach to problem-solving and knowledge sharing. • Deep understanding of higher education data systems (e.g., student information systems, LMS, data warehouses). • Ability to document analytical processes clearly, develop training materials, and mentor colleagues to build data literacy and analytical capacity across the team.
