INSPECTION LEAD
Role: Inspection Lead
Work period: 8 weeks on / 2 weeks off
Location: Tanga, Tanzania
Start Date: ASAP
Contract End Date: 31 July 2026

Role Overview:
The Inspection Lead will oversee the inspection function, managing a team of five specialists covering pipeline, corrosion, site, methodology, and contracts. This role involves defining the inspection strategy, ensuring effective coordination and execution, and maintaining mechanical integrity across assets. Responsibilities include validating inspection scopes, monitoring team performance and KPIs, and mentoring junior engineers in inspection techniques and damage mechanisms. The Inspection Lead will also contribute to the development of inspection standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities: Develop and refine inspection strategies and methodologies. Establish procedures and audit plans in line with standards and regulatory requirements. Participate in recruitment and selection of inspection personnel. Set up inspection service contracts aligned with operational needs. Coordinate inspection activities across Tanzania and Uganda. Evaluate and enhance inspection efficiency. Review change management requests. Select and assess risk-based inspection tools. Maintain registers for lifting equipment, flexible components, and temporary repairs. Ensure availability and currency of welding qualifications, materials, and procedures for emergency pipeline repairs. Act as the primary contact for inspection and corrosion matters. Oversee inspection programs, intelligent pigging operations, and partial shutdowns. Contribute to budget planning for inspection activities. Analyze inspection reports and recommend corrective actions. Participate in technical audits of contractors in areas such as NDT, welding, piping, and coatings. Review recommendations for improvements in materials, design, coatings, cathodic protection, and corrosion control. Ensure compliance of repairs, modifications, and equipment procurement with applicable standards and company policies. Lead and manage the inspection team and resources. Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Materials Engineering, with a focus on mechanics, metallurgy, and corrosion. Familiarity with oil and gas processing equipment and pipeline systems. Strong understanding of international inspection standards (ASME, API, NACE, etc.). Expertise in materials science, welding, corrosion mechanisms, NDT, and inspection techniques. Knowledge of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodologies. Proficiency in CMIMS systems. Skilled in Fitness-for-Service assessments (API RP 579, ASME, DNV). Fluent in English (spoken and written).
Experience: Minimum of 10 years in inspection leadership roles within oil & gas, refinery, or petrochemical environments. Experience in planning and executing full-field shutdown inspections. Professional engineering registration (ERB) required; for non-Tanzanian candidates, registration can be completed post-hiring with appropriate academic documentation.
