THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE
Santander Alternative Investments (SAI) is looking for a Infrastructure Research Manager based out of Madrid
SAI currently manages or acts as investment adviser to various infrastructure and climate funds, including senior debt, junior debt/special situations, equity and venture capital. As part of the next phase of growth, SAI will launch a series of new products beginning with
new high-yield/junior infrastructure credit fund targeted to institutional clients. Santander will coinvest USD 200m in the fund. This commitment can be drawn first to create a seed portfolio ahead of fund raising. This is a follow on strategy to the infrastructure special situations / credit fund which SAI currently advises and co-managesa follow on venture climate fund investing in climate tech and deep tech (both terrestrial and space based). This is a follow on strategy from the current fund managed by SAI but marketed to global institutional clientsThe Infrastructure Research Manager will support the infrastructure and climate VC teams in the raising, deployment and management of these and future funds by:
Carrying out primary research and preparing publications to support fund-raising and investment managementCoordinate with investment teams to adapt research for fundraising pitches and LP communicationsResearching information and formulating investment conviction and strategies with the investment teamAuthoring internal research / conviction / market viewpoint papersProviding thought leadership and market viewpoint papers to investors as part of the fund raising process and during the life of the fundProviding macro analysis to assist with transactions, valuations and portfolio reportingBe an ambassador for the business at events, conferences etc and present thought leadership (including on macro, sector, country and responsible investment perspective)Work closely with FX overlay team in helping formulate hedging strategiesJoin investment and valuation committees, LPAC meetings, investor AGMs etcAnticipate sector trends and early signals in infrastructure and energy, translating them into actionable investment insights.Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, multilaterals and policy institutions to enrich the teams’ market intelligence.Establish a structured research agenda on digital infrastructure (ie. data centers, fibre, satellites, smart grids).Comment on regular geostrategic and regulatory outlooks to anticipate the impact of policy changes (IRA, EU Green Deal, Fit-for-55, etc.).WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Professional experience
Around 8-10 years in similar role (Required)Education
Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Energy, or any other related field (Required)Strong academic background with emphasis on quantitative analysis, infrastructure, and/or energy transition (Required)Languages
Written and spoken fluency in English (Required)A working knowledge of other languages an advantage (Preferred)Hard Skills
Strategic leadership and ability to engage with an investment team in credit and equity . (Required)Fundraising experience and LP engagement. (Required)Ability to formulate research outlooks on macro infrastructure and specific geographies, sectors and asset classes (Required)Ability to translate macro events into investment conviction documents and action. (Required)Ability to write clear engaging reports which offer insight and are differentiated (Required)Willingness to express and justify views and “take others on the journey” (Required)Familiarity with SFDR and ESG-issues and or linked covenants . (Required)Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement. Ability to engage with investors (Required)Skills in hosting webinars, presenting research views publicly (Required)Strong ability to anticipate regulatory and geopolitical developments and translate them into investment insights.
