Infrastructure Engineer – Network Focus
Location: Edmonton, AB (Hybrid – flexible onsite schedule)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM MST (40 hours/week, with flexibility for occasional coordination with Australian operations)
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer – Network Focus to help strengthen a global hybrid IT environment. This role will play a critical part in the design, implementation, and support of enterprise networking and core infrastructure systems, ensuring secure connectivity, high availability, and reliable performance across operations in Canada, the U.S., and Australia.

Reporting to the Sr. Manager of IT Infrastructure & Security – Global, you will take ownership of networking services while also contributing to infrastructure projects and modernization initiatives. Working closely with infrastructure peers, security teams, and vendors, you will help manage multi-site networks, integrate cloud and on-premises environments, and safeguard operational continuity.

This role is vital to safeguarding uptime, reducing risk, and enabling hybrid cloud strategy.
Key Responsibilities Network Operations & Architecture
Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, wireless).

Configure and optimize Cisco Meraki, Fortinet, and Ubiquiti/UniFi devices for performance, security, and scalability.

Manage networking in Azure and AWS (VNETs, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway, VPCs, security groups).

Conduct monitoring, analysis, and capacity planning for proactive performance management.

Lead continuous improvement efforts (network segmentation, VLAN optimization, advanced routing).

Manage carriers/ISPs for branch and data center connectivity.

Support VOIP and telecom systems, including enterprise voice and mobility solutions.
Infrastructure & Systems Support
Administer Windows Server, Active Directory, and SQL Server in on-prem environments.

Support and manage hybrid cloud solutions in Azure and AWS (VMs, storage, backup).

Assist with modernization initiatives (server migrations, storage refreshes, Veeam backups).

Ensure reliability and security of critical applications through network/system integration.

Provide advanced troubleshooting for escalated network, storage, and server issues.

Collaborate with application teams on secure and reliable system connectivity.
Security & Compliance
Configure firewalls, routing policies, and access controls to protect data and systems.

Implement security best practices (segmentation, MFA, least privilege access).

Partner with cybersecurity teams on threat monitoring, vulnerability management, and endpoint/email security (Abnormal, Proofpoint).

Perform regular reviews of logs and alerts to detect and address threats.

Support penetration testing and security assessments, including remediation.
Disaster Recovery & Continuity
Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies for network and infrastructure systems.

Implement redundancy (secondary circuits, clustered firewalls, replicated storage).

Test and validate failover and recovery processes for critical systems.

Participate in DR exercises and ensure lessons learned are applied.

Align IT continuity strategies with business requirements.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
Create and maintain documentation (diagrams, standards, procedures).

Mentor and guide peers in troubleshooting and system management.

Build a centralized IT knowledge base (how-to guides, FAQs, SOPs).

Ensure infrastructure practices align with governance and repeatable standards.

Contribute to workshops, peer training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.

5–8 years of experience in enterprise networking and infrastructure administration.

Certifications such as CCNP, Fortinet NSE, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Networking, MCSA/MCSE, ITIL v4 are assets.

Expertise with Cisco Meraki, Fortinet, Ubiquiti/UniFi, Azure networking solutions.

Strong knowledge of routing, switching, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs.

Experience with Azure, AWS, Windows Server, Active Directory.

Familiarity with virtualization platforms, modern backups (e.g., Veeam), and enterprise storage.

VOIP/telecom setup and support experience an asset.

Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Technical Expertise
Hands-on experience with enterprise networking technologies (Meraki, Fortinet, Ubiquiti/UniFi).

Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, QoS).

Cloud platform expertise (Azure, AWS) including networking, compute, and storage.

Proficiency in Windows Server, AD, Group Policy.

Knowledge of SAN, iSCSI, RAID storage solutions.

VOIP and telecom support for enterprise environments.

Exposure to security tools and practices (endpoint, email, firewall, vulnerability management).

Strong documentation skills for designs, diagrams, and SOPs.
