Responsibilities
This role represents Mayo Clinic as one of the first contact points a patient or visitor will complete upon arriving to campus and is a critical team member in facilitating patient visits. The Information Desk Attendant provides excellent customer service while establishing and maintaining a pleasant and helpful relationship for patients, visitors, and other Mayo Clinic personnel. In addition to providing overall presence, the Information Desk Attendant may greet patients and visitors and assist in navigation, verify patient appointments, communicate with colleagues within the practice to gather appointment details, understand and enforce the institutional visitor policy, following designated screening script and process flows, and enforce entrance utilization and related policies (ex: masking, badging). Job responsibilities also include remaining calm and composed during stressful situations and effectively de-escalating conflict.
This role communicates information accurately in a pleasant and efficient manner to a variety of people, including patients, visitors, medical center staff and other departments. The information desk attendant functions as a resource to these groups and is familiar with multiple resources. The information desk attendant is responsible for coordinating visitors with inpatient units, coordinating the special transportation needs of patients, keeping the patient loading zones clear, assisting with traffic control during all types of weather. Other responsibilities include assisting patients and guests to and from cars, courtesy vans, wheelchair, and stretcher transportation, etc. The information desk attendant carries out all aspects of the job while displaying good judgment and problem-solving skills and assumes the responsibility of self-development within the role.
This position will be required to work varied hours, which may include days, evenings, days/evenings, holidays and weekend with rotating days off.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous hospital or clinical experience in a customer related field is preferred. Must be able to work independently.
Requires good communication, telephone and human relation skills to interact with staff, visitors and patients. Strong problem-solving skills are necessary. Must be able to adapt to unpredictable situations and stress. Works varied hours which may include days, evenings, days/evenings, holidays, and weekends with rotating days off. Basic computer skills required.
