Security Clearance: reliability granted or eligible for reliability clearance (5+ years residing in Canada) is a must for this role.
We are hiring an Information Architect to support a major transformation program delivering a modern enterprise Knowledge Management (KM) solution.
In this role, you will lead the definition of metadata models, taxonomies, content structures, and governance frameworks that enable intuitive search, effective content management, and long-term sustainability. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders and cross-functional delivery teams — including UX, Solution Architecture, Technical Architecture, AI specialists, Business Analysts, Data Migration, and Change Management — to ensure information is structured, governed, and delivered effectively across the program. This is a senior, hands-on role that requires strong analytical skills, deep IA expertise, and the ability to influence solution design within a multi-layered governance environment.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
-Lead workshops and discussions with business stakeholders to understand information needs, content challenges, and search/findability issues.
-Identify both explicit and implicit information requirements across diverse user groups.
-Guide and mentor analysts and content contributors in applying metadata, taxonomy, and governance principles.
-Communicate IA decisions and impacts clearly within cross-functional teams.
Information Architecture & Metadata Modeling
-Develop enterprise taxonomies, metadata models, content types, vocabularies, and information structures that support usability, governance, and AI-driven retrieval.
-Design navigation and information-flow models that make content easy to find, understand, and manage.
-Ensure IA decisions align with the broader architectural direction and program governance model.
Search, Findability & AI-Enablement
-Define IA components that support intelligent search, semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and metadata-driven retrieval experiences.
-Partner with AI/ML specialists to ensure content structure and metadata support accurate AI outputs and relevance scoring.
Compliance, Governance & Records Management
-Embed records management requirements (retention, disposition, auditability) into IA structures.
-Ensure content governance, versioning rules, approval flows, and classification practices align with organizational policies and regulatory expectations.
-Contribute IA inputs to KM governance and content lifecycle frameworks.
Design Collaboration
-Provide IA direction for design and UX workflows, ensuring content organization, tagging, and navigation support intuitive user experiences.
-Validate prototypes, wireframes, and search interfaces for IA consistency.
-Work with architects and technical teams to ensure IA structures are technically feasible, performant, and aligned with platform capabilities (e.g., SharePoint Online, OpenText, Documentum).
Migration Support & Content Mapping
-Define IA requirements that shape content migration, including metadata mapping, taxonomy alignment, and content type normalization.
-Review migration mapping proposals and identify structural and content-quality issues.
-Collaborate with migration and architecture teams to ensure smooth adoption of the new IA model.
Cross-Team Integration
-Coordinate IA decisions across UX, Architecture, AI, Business Analysts, PMO, Data Migration, and Change Management.
-Ensure IA deliverables remain aligned as design evolves and decisions pass through ongoing project governance.
-Contribute IA insights to release planning, readiness activities, and user adoption support.
-10+ years of leadership experience in Information Architecture, content strategy, enterprise content design, or related fields.
-Extensive hands-on experience with enterprise ECM/EDRMS platforms (SharePoint Online, OpenText Content Server, Documentum, etc.).
-Strong expertise in taxonomy design, metadata modeling, controlled vocabularies, and structured content design.
-Experience implementing records management (retention, disposition, auditability) in regulated or public-sector environments.
-Demonstrated ability to translate policies, compliance requirements, and business needs into sustainable information structures.
-Experience designing or validating role-based access control (RBAC) and content security models.
-Experience supporting large content migration initiatives (conceptual IA responsibilities, structure, and mapping).
-Excellent communication and facilitation skills; able to present IA concepts to both business and technical audiences.
-Proven ability to collaborate effectively within large, multi-disciplinary programs and incorporate architectural feedback.
-Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Studies, Library and Information Science, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, or a related field
Preferred
-Familiarity with Government of Canada IM/IT or KM standards.
-Exposure to semantic search, vector embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or other AI-driven search tools.
-Experience working within Agile delivery (SAFe preferred) and using Azure DevOps (ADO).
Certifications in Knowledge Management, Records Management, or Information Architecture (e.g., KMI, AIIM, ARMA).
-Experience supporting change management and training related to new content systems or structured content models.
