They implement and review the facility's infection prevention program. They ensure standards and guidelines from professional organizations and agencies are included. They also serve as a resource for infection prevention issues for all facility personnel. **Essential Functions of the Role** + Implements infection prevention strategies to prevent and control the transmission of infectious agents, applying epidemiologic values and evidence-based guidelines + Conducts on-going surveillance using Centers for Disease Control (CDC) infection criteria + Reports patients with communicable diseases to the appropriate health authority + Monitors compliance with national standards and bodies like JC, CDC, OSHA, and FDA through observations, audits, and other methods. + Provides education to increase employee awareness of existence of healthcare-associated infections + Participates in quality/performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring healthcare-associated infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis + Partners with teams to create, educate, and sustain evidence-based infection prevention strategies, as well as provide feedback + Participates in educational activities, professional meetings, and peer networking.
